Forty-two (42) students from Federal Government Girls College, visited the National Library of Nigeria, Area II branch, Garki, Abuja on excursion.
Led by their teachers, Mrs. Obiageli Sandra and Mrs. Okwute V. O., the students were received on arrival by the Head of Branch, Mrs. Ruth Bature who explained to them the mandate and functions of National Library of Nigeria.
Mrs. Bature also encouraged the students to always come to the Library and make use of library resources. She said that there were foreign and Nigerian Books and magazines that would build them up academically.
She lamented the frequent mass failure on WAEC and NECO examinations by the students which she attributed to the lack of reading culture among Nigerians. She also advised the students to be familiar with the use of computer.
The students were earlier taken round different sections of the library including Nigeriana, Serials, Foreign Monograph and Cyber Café Sections.
Omoniyi Favour, an SS II student, who shared her own experience for the visit, stated that she never learnt how to use the Internet and library until after their visit. Favour and other students said that they would be visiting the library to read books.
