President Muhammadu Buhari, Governors Abdullahi Gaduje (kano),Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Mai Mala Buni (yobe) and Yahaya Bello (kogi)have mourned former Presidential candidate of defunct National Repulican Covention (NRC).Tofa died yesterday at the Aminu Kano Teching Hospital after a Protracted illness and was buried according to Islamic rites in Kano. he was 74. The statement said President Buhari leads the nation in mourning Bashir Tofa, a politician of note, who once run as presidential candidate in a two-horse race, who was also a promoter of Islamic culture and civilisation. In his condolence message Buni, who is the chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning committee (CECPC), described the late Tofa as and iconic politician who shared the valued of politics as a call to services, to promote good governance and to improve the lives of the electorate.He was as much victim of military meddlesomeness in politics as Abi-ola was ACF said.

The senate President Ahmad Lawan, on the  23rd of January 2022, called for a  thorough investigation into the incident in which a motor driver was reportedly shot dead at Garin Alkali in Bursari Local Government of Yobe State. He said, he was deeply saddened by the tragic news at Garin Alkali on Saturday and the violent reactions that followed it. He also appeal for calm and  assure the peace- loving members of the community that justice will be served in this matter. He urge memers of the community never to take the law into their hands no matter the provocation because such reactions often lead to further tragedies.

The National Assembly yesterday approved President Bola Tinubu's request to appoint 20 Special Advisers. His request were read at plenary by Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, after Lawan read the letter, Senate Leader Ibrahim Gobir moved a motion for the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President and Commander in Chief for the approval of the Senate to appoint 20 Senate Advisers. The House in line with the provisions of section 151 of the 1999 constitution toed the same line with the senate.

The President was painstaking in his choice of ministerial nominees, the Presidency said yesterday. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s list of 28 would-be ministers was made available by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary yesterday. 

Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, who delivered the correspondence, which contained the list and a request for confirmation, said additional nominees’ list will be sent “in the coming days”.

Speaking to reporters in Aso Villa, he said: “I’m sure you all know that the government is not fully formed until a cabinet is in place. “That process started a while ago, culminating in the delivery of ministerial nominees today. “The President took his time, “He had 60 days from the time of inauguration, as stipulated in the Constitution. He has fulfilled that requirement by submitting 28 names. Each of the persons on that list, I believe, is worth being there.

The National Assembly will send an amended version of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2010 to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent before Saturday. The reworked bill by the Senate and House of Representatives will be passed today after meeting behind closed doors with Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The President had refused to assent to the bill, citing the direct primary provided for political party primaries to select candidates for elections as his core reason. Lawan said the grey areas had been attended to and the bill would be sent back to Buhari before the end of the week. Lawan is optimistic that the cleaning process will not take more than a day, but if it does, it has to be early next week. Before meeting with Buhari, Lawan had listed the need to rejig the controversial bill and the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution as the major planks of the Senate's Legislature Agenda. The Senate dissolved into an executive session to discuss the response of Mr. President on the bill.

Solomon Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, has accused soldiers operating checkpoints around the Ikeja axis of Lagos State of robbing and killing his aide, Mr. Adeniyi Sanni, on August 5. Adeola claimed that Sanni was stopped at a checkpoint around the Ojodu-Berger, Lagos, on his way to his home at Isheri. He was asked to provide the documents of his car, which he did through a WhatsApp message. However, when the wife called him later, the soldiers were still checking the vehicle's particulars. Adeola believes that his aide was killed by a syndicate of soldiers operating under Brigadier General Nsikan John Edet, under the newly deployed Commander of 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment of the Nigeria Army. He has urged Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, to direct the fishing out of the killers of his aide for further investigation, prosecution, and justice for the deceased. Adeola said such a pattern of killings and armed robbery had been established against soldiers mounting late-night checkpoints around Ikeja, with similar unreported incidents in recent times around Ikeja. He added that the Army could not be seen to condone or harbor rogue elements robbing and killing innocent Nigerians "within its fold."
