Following a Tuesday night incident at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport where a Boeing 737 aircraft suffered a tyre burst upon landing, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority announced a three-month suspension of Max Air's domestic flight operations starting at midnight on January 31, 2025. Although all fifty-three passengers disembarked unhurt and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has launched an official probe into the cause of the event, this marks the third incident involving the airline in three months. During the ninety-day ground period, the civil aviation authority will conduct a comprehensive safety and economic audit to re-inspect the company's personnel, procedures, aircraft, and financial health to ensure it can sustain safe flight operations before resuming services. The management of Max Air acknowledged the temporary closure, stating that the voluntary pause will allow for an internal operational evaluation to restore public confidence, while promising full refunds or rebooking options with partner airlines for all affected passengers.

The Federal Government is set to commence a 50% interstate transport fare price reduction scheme, benefiting travellers from Lagos, Abuja, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, among others. The scheme, which began on December 20, 2024, will pay 50% of road travelers' fares. The initiative will be executed in partnership with key transport stakeholders, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, and the Association of Luxurious Bus Owners of Nigeria. The scheme will run from December 24, 2024, to January 5, 2025, with some luxury buses operating between 6:00 am and 7:00 p.m. daily.

The Lagos State Government and the ruling political party have firmly distanced themselves from the sudden impeachment of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, maintaining that the removal was strictly an internal legislative affair handled in accordance with the constitutional separation of powers. Lawmakers overwhelmingly voted to sack Obasa during a plenary session following multiple allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and financial misappropriation, which included previous controversies surrounding heavy expenditures and speculations regarding his potential ambition to run for the state governorship. Following the resolution, the House also indefinitely suspended the legislative clerk, dissolved all standing committees and principal positions, and swiftly swore in the former Deputy Speaker as the new and first female head of the assembly, alongside a newly elected deputy speaker. While opposition parties have voiced varying perspectives on the political undertones of the crisis—pointing to alleged power dynamics and rivalries—former colleagues and ruling party officials have insisted that the decision was driven entirely by the lawmakers themselves to correct administrative shortcomings within the house.
