President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to ensure that the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, which is currently engaged in an indefinite strike, returns to work. The Minister of State, Dr. Iziaq Salako, stated that efforts are underway to address the doctors' 19-point list of demands following the strike's impact on hospital services, noting that most issues are being addressed with the help of an industrial relations expert and that significant funds have been released to pay outstanding arrears. Additionally, Dr. Salako mentioned that the government intends to resolve disputes related to employment schemes and has approved measures to increase the retirement age for clinical staff. However, the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors maintains that its demands are critical for a sustainable healthcare system and is willing to continue the strike until progress is made, while the Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory has clarified that its members will persist in their industrial action due to unresolved payment issues and has called for intervention from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to address systemic challenges in the healthcare sector.
