Prominent Economist and Political Activist Professor Pat Utomi has launched a virtual opposition force called the Big Tent Coalition Shadow Government to challenge the policy failures of President Bola Tinubu administration and offer better governance solutions. Professor Pat Utomi argued that the current government's poor decisions have worsened poverty, caused multinational companies to leave, and fueled insecurity across states like Benue and Plateau. To address this national emergency, the shadow cabinet will hold weekly meetings focusing on economic growth, production, decentralized security, and constitutional reform. Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi was named head of the Ombudsman and Good Governance portfolio, while individuals like Oghene Momoh, Cheta Nwanze, Daniel Ikuonobe, Halima Ahmed, David Okonkwo, Obi Ajuga, Doctor Adefolusade Adebayo, Doctor Peter Agadah, Doctor Sadiq Gombe, Chibuzor Nwachukwu, Salvation Alibor, Bilkisu Magoro, Doctor Victor Tubo, Charles Odibo, Doctor Otive Igbuzor, Eunice Atuejide, Gbenga Ajayi, Doctor Mani Ahmad, Peter Oyewole, Doctor Omano Edigheji, Sidi Ali, Ibrahim Abdukarim, Adenike Oriola, Promise Adewusi, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, Ambrose Obimma, Rwang Pam, Doctor Kingsley Anedo, Professor Auwal Aliyu, Doctor Ghazali Ado, Nana Kazaure, Aisha Yusuf, Doctor Charles Gilbert, and Olujimi Akiboh were appointed to various policy units. However, the Federal Government strongly opposed the move. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the shadow government as an aberration that has no place in Nigeria presidential democracy or statute books, stating that meaningful political opposition should instead be contested within the country bicameral legislature.
