Deji Adeyanju, the lawyer for social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, is facing difficulties securing his client's release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Dele Oyewale, the commission's Head of Media and Publicity, stated that Martins Vincent Otse was granted administrative bail but remains in custody until he meets the required conditions. Dele Oyewale explained that the activist was legally arrested after repeatedly ignoring official invitations regarding multiple petitions that allege serious financial crimes. The commission emphasized that the arrest was based strictly on these financial allegations and was not a retaliation for the activist's past social media attacks against their operations. However, Deji Adeyanju countered this by calling the situation a "social media bail," explaining that his legal team has made multiple unsuccessful attempts to actually receive the official documents containing the bail conditions. Meanwhile, the arrest has sparked public outrage and protests, drawing widespread condemnation and calls for his release from supporters, lawyers, and notable figures like Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 election.
