Growing competition between Dangote Refinery and the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited along with its Port Harcourt facility has led to lower petrol prices at the pump, providing financial relief for consumers and independent marketers. Retail stations have adjusted prices downwards: Nigerian National Petroleum Company outlets reduced pump prices from 1,030 Naira to 965 Naira per litre, while private marketers such as AA Rano and AYM Shafa cut their rates from 1,070 Naira to 1,020 Naira per litre, even as Conoil held firm at 1,090 Naira per litre. Industry figures, including Chinedu Ukadike of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and Muda Yusuf of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, noted that Dangote Refinery lowering its bulk purchase threshold from 10 million litres to 2 million litres makes fuel more accessible for smaller distributors, while new depot rates of 899 Naira and 899.50 Naira per litre will help stabilize the market and ease demand pressure on foreign exchange.
