Following a Tuesday night incident at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport where a Boeing 737 aircraft suffered a tyre burst upon landing, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority announced a three-month suspension of Max Air's domestic flight operations starting at midnight on January 31, 2025. Although all fifty-three passengers disembarked unhurt and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has launched an official probe into the cause of the event, this marks the third incident involving the airline in three months. During the ninety-day ground period, the civil aviation authority will conduct a comprehensive safety and economic audit to re-inspect the company's personnel, procedures, aircraft, and financial health to ensure it can sustain safe flight operations before resuming services. The management of Max Air acknowledged the temporary closure, stating that the voluntary pause will allow for an internal operational evaluation to restore public confidence, while promising full refunds or rebooking options with partner airlines for all affected passengers.
