The security landscape of Nigeria's capital city and surrounding regions has faced severe challenges, and major security breaches such as the coordinated terrorist attack on the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre and a rising wave of violent kidnappings for ransom. A central factor undermining urban safety and investigative efforts has been the prolonged abandonment and failure of a multi-million-dollar closed-circuit television surveillance project originally initiated under late President Umaru Yar'Adua and funded through foreign loans, which ultimately collapsed due to poor implementation, vandalism, and corruption. While security experts and stakeholders have decried the failed project as a national embarrassment that hampers modern crime-fighting, current federal leadership maintains that ongoing administrative reforms, enhanced regional security operations, and technology-driven policing initiatives are actively being strengthened to safeguard the nation and restore public safety.

Kennedy Ahanotu, the National Youth Leader of the Labour Party, has called for the suspension and recall of Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South, due to his controversial handling of the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Ahanotu accused Senator Imasuen, who leads the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, of rushing the investigation and violating a court order in a manner that felt unjust and bias. Stating that the Labour Party strongly supports gender equality, fair hearing, and the rule of law, the youth leader criticized the Senate for moving with unusual speed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan while ignoring pressing national issues like security and electoral reforms. Consequently, the party demanded that the Senate immediately lift Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan
