As the 2027 general elections approach, a former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has called for the governorship seat to be zoned to the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, specifically the Keffi zone. Speaking at a stakeholders meeting in the Keffi Local Government Area, Senator Abdullahi Adamu emphasized that power rotation is based on a 1996 gentleman’s agreement meant to ensure peace, equity, and stability in the state. Youth leader Akwashiki Ibrahim Musa noted that this call was widely supported by key figures, including the All Progressives Congress National Legal Adviser Professor Abdulkareem Kana, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and local youth leader Munzali Isa. Supporters argue that the western zone has not held the governorship in nearly two decades, while Nasarawa South and Nasarawa North have enjoyed extended periods in power. They believe sticking to the agreement prevents political marginalization and promotes unity. However, tensions are rising as some politicians from other zones want a free-for-all contest, leading to fears of an orchestrated conspiracy to deny the western zone its turn. Adding to the political anxiety, the current governor, Abdullahi Sule, stated he would announce his preferred successor at a later date, leaving stakeholders eager to see if the ruling party will respect the zoning arrangement or open the contest to all zones.
