A significant political shift occurred in Kano State as Governor Abba Yusuf, alongside 22 state legislators, eight federal lawmakers, 44 local government chairmen, and 484 councillors, defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move aims to enhance political stability and development. The defection has stirred tensions within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, prompting the resignation of Mustapha Kwankwaso as Commissioner for Youths and Sports. During a reception ceremony, Yusuf expressed commitment to collaborate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the state's advancement and announced plans for a Kano Elders Council to promote unity and governance. Former Governor Ganduje endorsed Yusuf as the leader of the APC in Kano, urging other aspirants to defer their ambitions for the 2027 election to support Yusuf's governance. Additionally, Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, also joined the APC, citing confidence in President Tinubu's leadership.
