Otunba (Dr.) Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, a former governor of Oyo State, died in his Ogbomoso, Oyo State home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. He was 71. His son, Olamijuwonlo, announced his death in a statement. Eminent Nigerians paid tributes to the departed former governor, including Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who described him as a patriot and a political icon. His contributions to the socio-political and economic development of Nigeria and humanity remain indelible. Mrs. Florence Ajimobi and Kolapo Kola-Daisi expressed shock over the unexpected death of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, a patriotic, hardworking, leader in the APC fold in Oyo State and Nigeria. The meeting of the Ajimobi Legacy Forum was abruptly terminated due to the death of the former governor, who was Oyo State Chairman of the APC Reconciliation Committee. His wise counsel would be greatly missed. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defense and chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), has condoled with the Alao-Akala family. Prince Kunle Oyewumi, a member of the National Governing Board of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), described the demise of the former governor as a huge loss to Oyo State and Nigeria. 

A strange sucession crisis has hit ibadanland, following the passage of the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji. Although the next in line to throne, the4 fOtun Olubadan, Highe Chief Lekan Balogun, is perceived as the natural successor, former Attorney-General and the commissioner for Justice Micheal Lana has written to Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde not to approve his apppoinment.The kingmakers have declared at a meeting that they would follow the tradition in naming the next olubadan, regardless of their elevation to the Obas. There should be no controversy as to who becomes the next Olubadan amongst us as the previous elevation that made us Royal Majesties did not in any way affect our respective offices in the Olubadan- in Council. For now, we are still all in mourning mood of our departed father and reverred leader in the council and we just want to asure generality our people, both home and in the Diaspora, that there is no cause for alarm.
