Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has received a goodwill visit from four of his Southwest colleagues, who discussed security and peace in the geo-political zone. The visit was at the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who had expressed concern over the reports on Akeredolu's health. Akeredolu's first public appearance since his return from medical leave in Germany on September 7 was attended by the governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo). The governor thanked his colleagues for their solidarity and spoke on the continuous collaboration and sustenance of regional brotherhood among Southwest states. In the last two weeks, protests in Akure have been held by some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters, seeking the governor's whereabouts and insinuations that Akeredolu had become incapacitated. The rift between his deputy, Lucky Ayedatiwa, and the House of Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct deepened in Akeredolu's absence. Ayedatiwa urged the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice Olusola Odusola, to ignore the request of the lawmakers for the setting up of a seven-man panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against him. A group of lawyers of Ondo State origin, who are against Aiyedatiwa's impeachment, asked Akeredoku to declare his health status and organize a press conference to declare his fitness.

The head of the caretaker committee for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has issued a warning against undermining the party's efforts at reconciliation in Gombe State. The party leader emphasized that it did not represent the ApC's views. Supporters of Governor Inuwa and Senator Goje were exhorted by the caretaker chairman to stand up for harmony, peace, and fraternity among the parties involved.

Otunba (Dr.) Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, a former governor of Oyo State, died in his Ogbomoso, Oyo State home on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. He was 71. His son, Olamijuwonlo, announced his death in a statement. Eminent Nigerians paid tributes to the departed former governor, including Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who described him as a patriot and a political icon. His wise counsel would be greatly missed. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defense and chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), has condoled with the Alao-Akala family. Prince Kunle Oyewumi, a member of the National Governing Board of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), described the demise of the former governor as a huge loss to Oyo State and Nigeria. 

Two civil society organisations (CSOs) have chided the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for demanding the payment of six months' salaries while keeping students at home during the union's strike. The CSOs expressed outrage at the action of the lecturers, who they said had kept university students at home while asking for salaries they did not work for. The CSOs are proposing to mobilise other CSOs for a showdown against ASUU, warning that if ASU sticks to its selfish demands, they will be compelled to lay siege to ASU offices across the country.
