The Cross River State government has confirmed an outbreak of Lassa fever in the Obubra area following the death of a thirty-year-old farmer who passed away at a teaching hospital in Ebonyi State. In response to the tragedy, the State Commissioner for Health announced that an emergency operation center has been activated and rapid response teams deployed to the affected community in collaboration with health agencies to conduct contact tracing, community sensitization, and home decontamination. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, maintain strict hygiene, store food securely to keep rodents away, and report any suspicious symptoms immediately instead of resorting to self-medication as the state works to contain the spread.
