The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that military personnel implicated in a plot to overthrow the government will face trial before a military judicial panel following an investigation into allegations of misconduct. President Bola Tinubu has confidence in the military's ability to handle the case. The situation began in October 2025, when 16 officers were arrested for breaches of service regulations, with claims linking them to secret meetings aimed at destabilizing the government. Despite initial denials from the previous Director of Defence Information, an extensive investigation led by Major General Samaila Uba has identified several officers with serious allegations. Uba stated that these actions were in accordance with military procedures, emphasizing the need for accountability and adherence to the Armed Forces Act. The investigation concluded that the conduct of the implicated officers was inconsistent with military ethics and standards. Uba highlighted the efforts aimed at maintaining discipline and operational effectiveness within the Armed Forces, assuring that disciplinary measures taken are necessary for preserving order and respect for constitutional authority.
