Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike stated that nothing catastrophic would occur if the Martins Amaewhule led Rivers State House of Assembly decides to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, asserting that removing a governor for constitutional infractions such as withholding lawmakers' salaries is a standard constitutional process rather than a crime. Speaking during a media interaction in Abuja, Wike dismissed warnings of a breakdown of law and order as baseless and argued that the lawmakers are acting within their constitutional authority rather than out of malice. Meanwhile, political tensions in the state intensified after Governor Fubara was locked out of the temporary Assembly complex along Aba Road in Port Harcourt when he arrived to re present the 2025 budget following 48hour ultimatum issued by the legislature pursuant to a Supreme Court order regarding state revenue.
