The Otu Oka-Iwu (Law Society) has commended Nigerians for peacefully celebrating the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Biafra. The group expressed satisfaction that no breach of peace occurred during the celebrations, and commended pro-Biafra groups like the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere. The association also commended the Federal Government and its agencies, particularly the police and Armed Forces, for ensuring no bloodbath during the events. However, the association called for the release of political prisoners and the demilitarization of the South East and South South zones of the country. The law society also urged the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (GCON), to take urgent steps to redress the injustice done to the South East zone by the removal of the former Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu.
