A Professor of Political Science and International Relations, Babafemi Badejo, has said though former President Muhammadu Buhari failed woefully in the fight against corruption, his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be worse. Badejo stated this while delivering the first inaugural lecture of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, titled: “Interests.”

He submitted that Tinubu, judging from his actions in the last one month, would do by far than Buhari in other areas, but not in the fight against corruption. “It is my own view that former President Muhammadu Buhari failed woefully on the issue of anti-corruption. He did start by wanting to implement the UN anti-corruption’s strategy and went further to appoint a committee and that committee did nothing till today.”

A 37-year-old man named Taiwo Ishola was remanded in custody after being charged with murdering his younger brother's two children at a magistrates' court in Abeokuta, Ogun State.The defendant, who does not have a definite residence, is accused of murder on one count.Ishola committed the act on August 5 at around 5:30 p.m. at the Mile 6 section of the Obafe road in Abeokuta, according to the prosecutor, F.A. Oyewole, who testified in court.Promise Ishola, 9, and Testimony Ishola, 7, the sons of his younger brother Idowu Ishola, were allegedly killed by the defendant.Oyewole further said that the defendant killed the kids by using a machete to sever their heads and other body parts.He described how the defendant drove a motorbike to the home of the younger brother and picked them up.

 

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has trained about 200 students/learners drawn from 25 secondary schools within Abeokuta metropolis in Ogun State on financial literacy. The training, in commemoration of the 2023 Financial Literacy Day, with the theme: “Plan Your Money, Plant Your Future”, took place at the Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

In his address, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDIC, Bello Hassan, said the programme, which was in partnership with the Ogun State Government, was part of the organisation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Declaring the workshop open, the state’s Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Bosede Ogunleye, applauded NDIC for the programme, which according to her, would go a long way in shaping students’ future positively.

She called on the learners to cultivate the habit of saving for rainy days from a young age, saying the principle of being prudent was required for students on their pathway to success, and added that, “The Habit of saving is education itself as it teaches self-denial.”

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct fair and credible elections in 2023. Ogundele noted that previous elections were marred by manipulation of results, ballot boxes snatching and violence, and Nigerians yearn for a list of executives and documents submitted to the electoral body. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has called for Nigerians to endure "baby steps of pain" following economic reforms his administration implemented. During a private visit to the palace of Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Tinubu urged unity, focus, and no distractions to achieve positive changes for the country. He urged Nigerians to maintain an open door policy and let freedom flow, as the country is the only one with such a spirit. Tinubu also expressed gratitude for the support during the campaign and urged prayers and support to help the country. He emphasized the importance of resolving differences and recharging hope for a positive future.
