Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put measures in place to avert industrial action. The union embarked on strikes for several months during the last administration of former President Muhammad Buhari over issues concerning funding and platform for payment of lecturers’ salaries.
ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke said the union foresaw an improved working relationship between ASUU and the federal government led by President Tinubu. He, however, expressed worry over what he called bureaucratic attack on Nigerian universities by the federal government.
He described as anomaly the government’s undue interference in university administrations, including usurping the powers of councils, appointments and salary payments of staff members.Â
