During an industry stakeholder engagement session in Lagos, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy acknowledged that millions of Nigerians, particularly in rural areas, still face limited internet access due to poor infrastructure and low digital literacy. To bridge this gap, the federal government has committed to expanding connectivity through several transformative initiatives, including a major fiber optic expansion project, high-speed internet rollouts for local government secretariats, public-private partnerships, and a program aimed at building a digital workforce of three million technical talents. Additionally, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission emphasized that achieving sustainable digital inclusion requires a collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach to attract investments into rural telecommunications and ensure affordable connectivity becomes a fundamental right for all citizens.
