The current council chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mustapha, has been suspended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) branch of the Gwagwalada Area Council due to anti-party actions. According to City News, there has been a cold war between the FCT's party leadership and the council's current chairman. The suspension of the Gwagwalada chairman was announced in a letter to the local government council, FCTA, the North Central chapter of the party, as well as the party's national secretary. The letter was signed by the Dobi Ward APC Chairman, Jibrin Gado, and Secretary, Aliyu Jibrin.
