The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr. Olukayode Popoola, has warned the public to avoid the Airport Road Flyover near Toyota Bus Stop following severe fire damage caused by a petrol tanker explosion. The inferno, which also affected about 200 meters of the Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota-Oworonshoki Expressway under reconstruction by the Dangote Group, burnt the bridge deck and severely damaged one of its piers, raising serious safety concerns. Popoola stated that samples were being analyzed to assess the bridge’s structural integrity and cautioned against its use after some people removed safety barricades. Lagos State officials, led by Mrs. Aramide Adeyoye, vowed to enforce stricter roadworthiness checks on petrol tankers to prevent similar incidents, while the Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed that the tanker had been impounded and that investigations and possible prosecutions were underway.
