Following repeated protests and blockades of the Ministry of Finance in Abuja by retired military personnel over unpaid entitlements, salary increments, and allowances, the Federal Government proposed a fifty-three per cent increase in military pension allocations for the year 2025, raising the total from two hundred and twenty-one billion, six hundred and sixty million Naira to three hundred and thirty-eight billion, nine hundred million Naira. Although these recurring demonstrations initially exposed severe delays and financial hardships faced by veterans, the government recently began disbursing the owed funds directly to the retirees, prompting them to evacuate the ministry headquarters while discussions regarding long-term financial sustainability and minimum wage adjustments continue.
