The Federal Government in Nigeria is set to resume direct cash transfers to 15 million Nigerians to address poverty. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Wale Edun confirmed President Bola Tinubu's approval for this move. The government plans to increase the benefiting households from three million to 12 million. Edun emphasized the importance of using technology to make simple payments between registered and direct beneficiaries, reducing poverty. He also highlighted the President's commitment to ensuring cost is borne by the most people, particularly the poorest. Despite high food prices, the President has intervened by opening grain stores and releasing 42,000 metric tonnes of grains. The Central Bank is working to stabilize rates and bring down foreign exchange rates to stabilize the microeconomic picture. The government is also focused on reducing inflation and addressing the historical legacy of the naira.
