If the Rivers State government follows through with its intention to obliterate part waterfront in the area, more than 40,000 residents of Diobu, a densely populated suburb of Port Harcourt, would be made homeless. Elechi 1, Elechi 11, Nanka, Abba, Urualla, Egede, and Soku are among the waterfronts that are affected; they are all situated off Iloabuchi Street in the Diobu neighbourhood of the State capital. The State Government will begin demolishing all shanties and temporary buildings in selected crime hotspots in Port Harcourt starting in the second week of January, according to State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike's message for the new year of 2022. Despite the fact that the occupants were given seven days to move out before the waterfront structures were demolished, the secretary of Egede Waterfronts,Barika Nwidezua, said several residents have lost their lives following the eviction threat.
