The Federal Capital Territory Police Command reported the neutralization of three suspected kidnappers who had been terrorizing the areas of ACO, Dupa, Gwagwalada, Kuje, and Kwali in Abuja. The operation, which took place after receiving intelligence about a planned large-scale kidnapping on December 1, involved the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. During a gun duel lasting over 30 minutes, the suspects were ultimately overpowered, and three were killed. One suspect, Sani Mohammed Umar, was arrested, and he was identified as a key conspirator with connections to previous kidnappings and armed robberies in the region. The operation resulted in the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and a mobile phone used for coordinating criminal activities. The police are conducting a clearance operation to locate other gang members, urging medical facilities to report anyone with gunshot wounds. The Commissioner of Police praised the efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and encouraged public vigilance and information sharing to combat crime. Similar operations have been noted by other police commands in the country, combatting kidnapping and terrorism.
