Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta of the Nigerian Communication Commissioner (NCC) has argued that ICT is an enabler of effectiveness in all sectors of the economy. He appealed to the Nigerian youths to take advantage of federal government policies, such as the ICT Hubs Support and Engagement programme.

More modern ransomware family members, collectively categorised as crypto-ransomware, encrypt certain file types on infected systems and force users to pay the ransom through certain online payment methods to get a decrypt key. I reached out to Remi Afon, the president of the Cybersecurity Experts Association of Nigeria, and he had this to say. To guard against WannaCry ransomware or any form of malware infection, all critical software patches must be updated as soon as patches or new operating system versions are available. This includes mobile and other Internet-connected devices. Also, regular backups of systems must be conducted; systems can be restored in cases of ransomware, and having a current backup of all data speeds up the recovery process. Keep all the software on your computer up-to-date. When your operating system or applications release a new version, install it. And if the software offers the option of automatic updating, take it.

Tek Experts is set to open a new security operations centre under its cybersecurity business, Cytek, in Lagos.

The firm noted that the center, which would be backed by Microsoft’s AI-enabled Sentinel platform, would deliver a full suite of cybersecurity solutions, and provide round-the-clock protection for government entities and businesses operating in Nigeria and West Africa.According to the firm in a statement, It said by leveraging Microsoft’s AI-powered technology, “Nigeria has always been a strategically important market for us. We are excited to establish a presence in Lagos. Follow the sun cybersecurity services, all powered by Microsoft’s world-class AI technology. We are delighted to provide Nigeria’s technology. 

Microsoft Country Manager, Nigeria, and Ghana, Ola Williams, added, said: “We actively seek opportunities to help clients gain easier access to our technology, which is why we are excited that Tek is establishing their SOC on Microsoft technology.

Microsoft says that information and communications technology now has a role to play in the production, preservation, and consumption of food. It said that the concept of food was not just about eating it, “but to see how produce may be grown in the future while exploring the convergence of art, biology, and technology.” This, the ICT company said, it was doing through what it called ‘Project Florence’. The company stated this at the just-concluded Microsoft Underground Campus Tour in Washington, the United States of America. The Principal Research Designer, Asta Roseway, explained that there had always been a relationship between people and their gardens (with some sources linking these relationships to increased longevity), but with computer interaction, plants would be able to talk back. Roseway said that it was largely expected that population growth, climate change, soil erosion, and growing populations in cities would make urban farming (growing food indoors in tanks) more essential. Another technical staff member, Jeff Kramer, said that there were other advantages to this approach as well and stated that factors such as oxygen and humidity, which normally reduced the lifespan of servers, were no longer an issue, which resulted in efficiency gains.
