The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Abdurahman Bobboi, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Adamawa State, Sanda Lamurde, former Commissioner for Finance in the state, and Feredan George, Chief Store Officer of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency. The charges include stealing, forgery, and uttering. The accused pleaded not guilty to the 26 counts, and the prosecution counsel, Abubakar Aliyu, requested a trial date. Justice Aliyu ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody pending the determination of their bail applications. The case is expected to be adjourned until November 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10, 2017.

The Alliance for Democracy in Ondo State has declared Chief Olusola Oke as its candidate for the November 26 governorship election in the state. Oke defected to the Alliance after the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress failed to adopt the recommendation of the Electoral Appeal Committee, which recommended the annulment of the September 3, 2016, primary of the party in Ondo State. Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun has warned the newly-elected chairmen of the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 additional Local Council Development Areas in the state against short-changing their people. A Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out one of nine counts of $1.6bn crude oil fraud against businessman Jide Omokore and five others. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba struck out the eighth count after hearing an application by former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, who alleged she was indicted without an opportunity to defend herself. The six defendants include Omokore, his companies Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Limited. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had preferred nine counts of criminal diversion of about $1.6bn, alleged to be part of proceeds of sales of petroleum products belonging to the Federal Government. Alison-Madueke, currently in the UK, was not listed among the existing six defendants in the case to defend the charge.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared Tony Nwoye, winner of the August 26, 2017 Anambra State APC primary, as the party's standard bearer in the state governorship election. The committee stated that the integrity of the exercise was not in dispute. Supporters of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and Dr. Olusegun Abraham clashed during a peaceful protest in Akure, Nigeria. Abraham's supporters were protesting against Akeredolu's candidacy for the November 2016 governorship election. The protesters were attacked by APC youths carrying Akeredolu's posters and weapons. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost the Kogi central senatorial seat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking the second loss in Kogi State. Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has announced that the All Progressives Congress will lead evidence at the election petitions tribunal to show how the Peoples Democratic Party allegedly benefited from electoral fraud during the recent governorship poll. Oshiomhole defended the PDP's candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who was allegedly denied victory in the election, stating that he is not worth 50,000 votes. Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola has dropped the names of two influential politicians, Muyiwa and Temitope Ilori, from his cabinet list. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2019, turning himself into an opposition figure for his own party, the All Progressives Congress. The Federal Government in Nigeria plans to spend N400 million on vehicles for former presidents and heads of state if the 2017 estimated spending by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) is approved. The funds for these allowances were not openly budgeted for in the proposal. The SGF, Babachir David Lawal, defended the planned expenditure before the Senate Committee on Federal Character. The committee agreed that the 10% release by the Ministry of Finance for the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation in 2016 was insufficient, which may indicate a problem between the Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance. The committee will investigate the poor release to the OSGF and seek to understand the issue. The request for more funding by the OSGF is considered "justified" by committee chairman, Senator Tijjani Kaura.

Nigeria's Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, has criticized Justice Ibrahim Buba for granting a perpetual injunction to former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Peter Odili, which has halted his prosecution. Buba's order has prevented the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other government anti-corruption agencies from prosecuting or arresting Odili, who was accused of embezzling N100bn of Rivers State money during his eight-year tenure. Sagay argued that the current injunction is unconstitutional and unconstitutional, stating that it removed the prosecutorial powers of the police and prosecution in Nigeria. He urged law enforcement agencies not to give up and suggested that any judge who grants an order of perpetual injunction against investigation, interrogation, and arrest should be regarded as having committed a serious act of wrongdoing, which should merit disciplinary action by the National Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused the Federal Government of sending policemen from Abuja to arrest 11 members of the state House of Assembly. The move is attributed to TKO Aluko's malicious outburst that those listed for arrest stockpiled arms during the governorship election. The APC chairman, Jide Awe, and TKO Aluko, who are wanted for alleged murder and perjury, have not been arrested. A leader of the APC in Ekiti said there was no big deal in inviting public officials to explain certain actions and inactions.

The members of the Campaign Committee from Ondo State include Hon. Afolami Olabomi, Mrs Bosede Agbaje Salami, Hon.Yemi Eze, and Bamidele Ayodele.

According to the statement made available to New Telegraph, they are to serve in various committees of the Campaign. 

Olabomi, a former House of Representatives aspirant in Akoko Northeast/Northwest federal constituency, would serve as Deputy Chairman of the Directorate of Mobilisation while Salami, the Coordinator of Articulated Global Movement (AGM), would serve in the Directorate of Physical challenge persons.

Eze and Ayodele would serve in other Directorates of the Campaign Committee for the PDP governorship candidate in Kogi State, Senator Dino Melaye.

Speaking at the first anniversary of the AGM yesterday, the PDP leaders promised to work for the emergence of Melaye as the next governor of Kogi State.

Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has announced that his administration has convened a national conference to address insecurity and agitations in the country. The conference was organized by The Patriots, led by Prof. Ben Nwabueze, and was a consensus-based decision. Jonathan called on President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the conference's recommendations, stating that council chairmen were receiving allocations without using them for community development. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been pressured to abandon the peace process he initiated in the troubled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She also urged the court to quash her six months suspension by the party as she was not given a fair hearing before being suspended by the party leadership. A former acting national chairman, Maria Lebeke, has corroborated Oparah’s allegations by accusing Abure of forging her signature when she acted as national chairman after then leader, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, died in December 2020. However, the plight of Abure worsened yesterday as chairmen of the party across the 36 states unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in him and asked him to step down with immediate effect.Oparah wrote a letter to the EFCC requesting a formal petition against the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, for several grievous offences bordering on forgery, embezzlement of the 3rd Defendant’s funds, and abuse of office and failure to account for the 3rd Defendant’s funds at his disposal. She stated that the most grievous act of impropriety by the 2nd Defendant pertains to his forgery of the signature of the late Alhaji Abdulsalam, 61 days after Abdulsalam’s death with which he withdrew monies from the account of the defendant.

Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has denied any intention to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite the controversy surrounding the Peoples Democratic Party's flag in the state governorship election. The National Assembly yesterday approved President Bola Tinubu's request to appoint 20 Special Advisers. His request were read at plenary by Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, after Lawan read the letter, Senate Leader Ibrahim Gobir moved a motion for the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President and Commander in Chief for the approval of the Senate to appoint 20 Senate Advisers. The House in line with the provisions of section 151 of the 1999 constitution toed the same line with the senate.

The National Assembly is prosposing a Bill that will empower the Securities and Exchange commission (SEC) to impose stiff punishment on promoters of Ponzi schemes and other unregistered investment schemes. The Bill is expected to empower the SEC with legal backing to effectively regulate the capital market and emphasise the independence of the commission in line with the requirements of the international organisation of securities commissions (IOSCO). The amendment is tittled: "A Bill for an act to repeal the Investments and Securities Act 2007 and Enact the investments and Securities and Exchange Commission as the Apex regulatory Authority for the Nigerian Capital Market as well as regulation of the Market to ensure Capital Formation, the protection of the Market to ensure protection of investors, Maintain Fair, Efficient and Transparent Market and reduction of Systematic Risk, and for Related Matters."

The Niger State House of Assembly has suspended the screening of the commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Mohammed Bago, decrying the inclusion of “only three Christians” in the 30-nominee list.

The lawmakers described as unfair the inclusion of only 10 per cent of Christians in the list.

The PUNCH reliably gathered that the lawmakers met at the weekend after the Speaker, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, summoned an emergency meeting.

The lawmakers decided to suspend the screening of the commissioner-nominees until there was at least 25 per cent Christian representation.

The lawmaker representing Lavun Constituency, Yusuf Dabban, while speaking at the annual state convention of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Niger State chapter in Kutigi, Lavun Local Government Area, said, “Christians and Muslims in the state are one. We (lawmakers) have asked that the list be adjusted.” The list has Elizabeth Shaba from Paikoro, Ibrahim Ijah from Tafa, and Maurice Magaji from Munya, as the only Christians. “When we received the list, we looked at it and discovered that there is no iota of guidance. And we, the lawmakers, especially the principal officers, are already making a recommendation that Christians form 30 per cent or at least 25 per cent of the executive council.

Buhari urged the military to maintain loyalty and submit to civil authorities, and to subsume personal interests to national aspirations of peace, unity, and justice. He also urged the military to collaborate with the private sector for research and innovation. Over 600 cadets from the Army, Air Force, and Navy were commissioned as second lieutenants.

The crisis rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) took a new turn on Tuesday as the two factions held parallel meetings and announced the expulsion of the BoT chairman and suspension of its national leader.

Daily Trust reports that the National Executive Committee (NEC) met in Abuja and ratified the expulsion of the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Agbo Major, with 14 others. The BoT of the party led by Dr Aniebonam met in Lagos and suspended the presidential candidate in the February 25 general election, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. 

Kwankwaso was conspicuously absent during the NEC meeting held at Bolingo Hotel, Abuja, which had the governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the speaker of the state assembly, Alhaji Jibrin Falgore, in attendance.

The NNPP has been rocked by a crisis recently as its National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved seven state executive committees as well as the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Agbo Major. 

The NEC alleged the BoT members and others affected were expelled for forming parallel boards, National Working Committee (NWC) and State Working Committees (SEC).

The acting national chairman of the party, Alhaji Abba Kawu, said a seven-member disciplinary committee was earlier set up by the NWC whose report led to the suspension of the state executive committees.

While explaining that the NEC was aimed at restructuring the party, Ali urged those who have won elections on the platform of the party to be good ambassadors and emulate Kwankwaso.

He also said the meeting intended to change the logo of the party, adding that there was a need to deliberate on the issue so that collectively an acceptable logo can be unveiled.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the BoT, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, who spoke after a ‘special general assembly’ in Lagos said Kwankwaso has been suspended for six months over anti-party activities.

The Senate has confirmed receipt of President Muhammadu Buhari's medical vacation extension letter, stating that there is no need to recall senators for plenary to debate the matter. The upper chamber confirmed the letter, stating that the president had complied with the constitution's requirement to be informed about his vacation. Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs Chairman Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi stated that there is no emergency in suspending or recalling the letter, as he has done what he is constitutionally mandated to do. The Senate suspended plenary to carry out the interaction with the MDAs on the 2017 budget. The letter was not indefinite, but it was extending beyond the 10 days he had asked for, as the tests are in the hands of the doctors. The suspension was to allow various committees to attend to the national budget, which is an important document that Nigerians are waiting for.

Former Osun State High Court judge Justice Olamide Oloyede has expressed no regrets for writing a petition against Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his deputy, Mrs. Titi Laoye-Tomori. Oloyede apologized to the governor and deputy for using inappropriate language in the petition, but defended her actions, stating she did not violate any constitutional section for discussing issues affecting the people of the state. She defended her actions in fidelity to her office and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, stating that the petition speaks for itself. Oloyede criticized those who believed the judiciary should only be seen and not heard, stating she did not belong to this class of people.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Houses of Assembly members in the North West states have endorsed Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State for President in 2023. The endorsement was disclosed via a communiqué issued after an extraordinary meeting of the forum in Abuja, which had in attendance former state legislators of the zone. The North West lawmakers also urged the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) to zone the party's presidential slot to the North. They also passed a vote of confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari for his leadership and passed a confidence vote in Governor Mai Mala Buni-led CECPC for its positively aggressive repositioning of the party.

The Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ), Ebonyi state council has commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for appointments made so far since assumption of office on May 29, 2023. This is as the chapel said ovr 80 percent of youth in the state had been appointed by the governor into various positions, which according to NUJ has effectively integrated the youth into governance in the state. They congratulated the governor on his victory at the polls and subsequent successful swearing-in as the 4th executive governor of the state. Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has accepted a public apology from his deputy, Philip Shaibu, following months of feuding. Obaseki acknowledged that to err is human and to forgive is divine. He spoke in Benin, but was silent on whether he would allow Shaibu to return to his official office. Obaseki acknowledged that Shaibu's behavior contradicted the people of Edo State, including filing unfounded petitions in Nigerian courts, restraining the State House of Assembly from an impeachment process, and repeatedly breaching protocol. He urged Shaibu to improve his conflict-resolution skills and urged his proxies to act in accordance with his piety.

It has earmarked N10 billion to support any candidate of Igbo extraction that emerges for the presidential race, and has met with religious groups and clerics in the North. It has also promised to lobby all parts of the country for power shift to the South East region. The Ohanaeze delegation argued that there should be no more abusive words between the North and the South East, and that Igbo have investments worth over N1 trillion in the North and can take over from President Muhammadu Buhari. Shettima responded that it was good to negotiate when seeking political power, and that nobody achieved good results through threats. He stated that politics was about dialogue and negotiation and that people should rise above board.

The Okitipupa Local Government Area in Ondo State has adopted a newborn baby from a mentally challenged woman found on the street. The woman, who claimed to have twins, was found with one of the babies taken away. The baby and mother were taken to the State Specialist Hospital in Okitipupa. The baby and mother are currently in the custody of the state's social workers. The Director of Child Development in the Ondo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Oluwaniyi Ogunleye, commended the efforts of security agents, social and local government workers who took care of the mother and newborn.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State chapter is facing a rift ahead of the state's governorship election. A peace meeting at the party's national headquarters ended in deadlock, with Deputy National Chairman, North, Shauibu Lawal stating that differences had been resolved, but the state Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, still has the endorsement of the party's national leadership. Kekemeke, however, denied any preference and stated that his preferred aspirant would be the person who garnered votes from the delegates. The crisis has worsened as leaders of the party under the aegis of the Ondo APC Elders Forum have flayed the ousted Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, claiming his attitude almost ruined the party. The party elders have urged their National Chairman, Chief Odigie Oyegun, to resolve the crisis before the governorship primary election and at the national level to resolve the impasse among aggrieved members to prevent the party's collapse.

A row in the Senate ensued after Ondo South senator Yele Omogunwa defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement of Omogunwa's defection led to a walkout when Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki overruled the demand to declare Omogunwa's seat vacant. This may have strained the relationship between majority APC senators and their minority counterparts in PDP. Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio raised a point of order, citing the 1999 Constitution, and argued that there was no leadership crisis in PDP following a Supreme Court judgment. However, Saraki ruled Akpabio out of order, which angered PDP senators. Senator Dino Melaye justified Omogunwa's defection, citing Section 68 (g,h) of the 1999 Constitution. Senator Peter Nwaboshi argued that Melaye's intervention was a breach of procedure. The situation escalated into a row, with PDP senators demonstrating their disapproval of the situation.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a meeting with all candidates for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State for next Tuesday. The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the electoral body would not transfer the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Segun Agbaje, before the conduct of the election as being canvassed by some people in the state. The meeting will also be attended by security agencies, civil society organizations, and local and foreign observers registered by INEC.Aspirants expected at the meeting include Jimoh Ibrahim, Rotimi Akeredolu, Chief Olusola Oke, and Dr. Olu Agunloye of the Social Democratic Party. The commission is ready for the election and appeals to all aspirants to play by the rules. The commission has no plan to redeploy the Ondo REC, Mr. Segun Agbaje, who is one of the commission's best and is doing a wonderful job in the state.The commission has learned from the just-concluded elections in the United States of America, which were monitored by officials of the commission. The use of technology in terms of electronic voting is instructive, and Americans have absolute trust in the integrity of their electoral system. Nigerians should emulate this and have confidence in INEC.

The Nigeria Union of Local Government empolyees (NUGLE) has said only Jigawa State is  implementing local government autonomy in the country. NUGLE said Jigawa is the only state paying local government allocations directly into their accounts. Presidnt of the NUGLE, Comrade Ambali Olatunji said during a pree conference to restate the call for local government autonomy in the country following the comments made by president Muhammadu Buhari on the relationship between state and local government in interview with the Channels Television. Both Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are anticipated to attend the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth and Students Council meeting in Abuja. The internal crisis rocking the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened and there is no resolution in sight before the national convention and governorship primary scheduled for February 2022. Ogbeni Rauf Aregesola, the immediate past governor of the state and Minister of Interior, has revealed that there are two factions in the state chapter at present, one chaired by Hon Razaq Salinsile and one chaired by Elder Lowo Adebiyi. Aregbesola's outburst has rubbished last year's intervention by the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Governor Bisi Akande. President Muhammadu Buhari must reconcile the political warlords. The feud between two gladiators, Oyetola's loyalists and those of Aregbesola, is worsening despite efforts by the national leadership of the party to reconcile them and place the party on the path of victory. Salinsile is heading the minister's faction of the executives while Prince Gboyega Famodun is heading the faction loyal to Oyetola. Both factions are bent on producing separate governorship candidates for the forthcoming governorship poll. A political group, 'Ileri Oluwa', is rooting and canvassing for the governor's re-election, while the pro-Aregbesola group, TOP, is doing everything possible to frustrate the incumbent's second term aspiration. A party source told The Guardian that the strategy is to repay Oyetola for how he rubbished his immediate predecessor by reversing most of his policies.

The National Assembly resumes plenary today after the Yuletide break, and governors elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on legislators not to sustain President Muhammadu Buhari's veto of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021. They re-echoed the position of the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, that the early conclusion of the amendment is vital for credible elections. They also lamented the continued state of insecurity in the country, persistent and ceaseless flow of Nigerians' blood on a daily basis, and the near collapse of security situation. They urged Mr President to reconsider his position and consider decentralisation and restructuring of the security architecture as the most viable solution, together with proper arming, funding and training requirements for security agencies. The governors and CSOs have called on the legislature and President Buhari to conclude the process of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by January 31, first by retransmitting the bill to the President for assent by Friday, January 21, and then by assenting to the bill within one week. The CSOs warned that further delay on the conclusion of the amendment process was inimical to the preparations for Ekiti and Osun elections.

Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has challenged willing All Progressives Congress (APC) members to obtain nomination forms for the July 16 governorship election, saying he will emerge as the party's candidate. He urged his supporters to work for his victory to demand zoning in the next governorship poll. He also hoped that the feud between him and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, would end soon.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has accused Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadan land, of not receiving his allowances for the past six months. The party's Director of Media, Research and Strategy, Dr. AbdulAzeez Olatunde, praised Olubadan for seeking legal action over the installation of 21 new kings by Governor Abiola Ajimobi. Olatunde stated that the monarch collected statutory allocations from the 11 council areas and the state government, stating that both sources had been remitting the money regularly. The APC also noted that the state government has paid all monarchs in the state up to June 2017 from the appropriated fund of the approved budget.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposing voices in Ebonyi State have been specifically targeted by accusations that the governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi, has unleashed terror on innocent Nigerians. Hon. Debo Ologunagba, national publicity secretary of the People Democratic Party (PDP), claimed that since Umahi switched from the PDP to the APC, he has allegedly turned to terrorizing innocent Nigerians, particularly PDP members, in an effort to instill a sense of siege mentality among the people of Ebonyi State as a prelude to rigging the general elections in 2023. He claimed that Hon. Linus Abaa Okorie, a prominent member of the House of Representatives, had just been listed as wanted by Umahi without any allegations or charges being brought against him.

Dan Orbih, Chairman of the People's Democratic Party in Edo State, has criticized former House of Assembly member Oghuma Johnson for accusing him of using policemen to chase away All Progressives Congress members in Ogbona village during the governorship election. Oghuma alleged that many APC members were unable to vote in the village because the police allegedly chased them away. The development affected the performance of his party in the area. The APC chief said, “Orbih influenced the policemen in Ogbona. Many APC members were driven away while PDP members were busy thumb-printing. Even a retired commissioner of police is aware of this. As a party leader in the unit, I tried to contact other APC leaders. I could only watch from afar. This affected us in the area.”Orbih dismissed the allegations, saying Oghuma was out to please Governor Adams Oshiomhole. He said, to a large extent, the election was peaceful in the local government area. Observers who visited the polling units saw that the election was free and fair. Orbih should find other means and ways to curry favours from his political masters rather than tell lies.

Prince Kassim Afegbua, a former Edo State Commissioner for Information, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to jettison any thought of ceding the 2023 presidential position to the northern part of the country, as doing so would run contrary to democratic principles of fairness, balance and inclusion. He argued that the Southern geopolitical zones of Nigeria have eminently qualified Nigerians and are ready to take a shot at the number one job. He also urged the new management and members of the National Executive Committee of the PDP as well as the National Working Committee to speak with one voice in ensuring that the South is given what is due to it.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and board of Trustees have backed efforts to end the crisis in the party. The party's National Caretaker Committee, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, will name members of its reconciliation committee on Monday. The committee will work with those nominated by the factional National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. The crisis began after the party lost the 2015 presidential election and worsened in March this year when its attempt at holding a national convention was thwarted by party leaders. The two factional chairmen's desire to bring peace back to the main opposition party was applauded by the governors and other members of the caucus. The committee will discuss ways of moving the party forward and will be inaugurated on Monday next week. The PDP will use all legal means to get its mandate back from affected lawmakers, including taking back seats from former governor Joshua Dariye.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to conduct the Edo governorship election primaries, with 576 delegates from 192 wards in the state converged on Hardball Court, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City, Nigeria. The primaries are crucial for the party's quest to regain the governorship seat in the state, which it lost in 2008. Three aspirants—former governorship candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Solomon Edebiri, former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and former majority leader of the state House of Assembly, Mathew Iduoriyekemwn—will participate in the primaries. The party has provided a level playing field for all aspirants, and the party has been transparent in all its dealings with all the aspirants. The battle for the governorship seat is half won if the PDP gets it right, but some argue that rancor-free primaries would have done the party a great disservice.

The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Ifeanyi Ubah and queried Senator Buruji Kashamu for alleged anti-party activities. Ubah was questioned for disparaging national officers and those conducting the Anambra State governorship primary. Kashamu, representing Ogun East in the Senate, was queried for his activities in the South-West zone of the party. Ubah chose not to answer the query, leading to his suspension for one month and referring the matter to the National Disciplinary Committee for further action. The party's spokesperson, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, stated that the matter had been referred to the party's disciplinary committee, which is expected to brief the party in two weeks. Ubah dismissed the allegation that he instigated the police against some PDP members in Ogun State, stating that he never reported any of these people to the police nor did he have course to instigate the police against them.

Prince Uche Secondus, the newly elected national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its propaganda will not distract the opposition party under his watch. He described the governing APC as a broken government and praised former national chairman, Sen Ahmed Makarfi, for being firm in managing the party during its most trying period. Secondus assured that he has started the process of reconciling party members who feel aggrieved with his emergence and assured that there are no barriers for former party members who intend to return to the party. He also mentioned that party leaders at state and regional levels would have more powers to resolve conflicts, ensuring victory in 2019. The party's leadership will embark on a retreat soon and come up with policy statements. Former national chairman, Sen Ahmed Makarfi, urged the new leadership to continue pursuing reconciliation, stressing that he is handing over a party that has become a darling of Nigerians.

The Peoples Democratic Party and the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) have criticised President Muhammdu Buhari's decision to work from home. Buhari was absent from a Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, and the Presidency blamed his absence on the Easter holiday. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated that Buhari only decided to work from home on Wednesday and that he wanted to rest today. However, the PDP urged the Presidency to reveal Buhari's health status, citing the era of manipulation of his health status by a cabal within the Presidency. The CLO President, Igho Akeregha, criticised the APC government's fraudulent setup and called for Buhari to resign if his health could not sustain the pressure of work. He argued that hanging around office and trying to protect the cabal is not good for the country and that Buhari's ardent fight against corruption should be remembered.

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party have berated the ruling All Progressives Congress for appointing former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the new National Chairman of the ruling party, saying the 73-year-old politician has corruption baggage hanging around his neck.

However, Ganduje, who emerged APC National Chairman on Thursday at the party’s National Executive Committee in Abuja, promised to promote unity among party members, carry out reforms and adhere to internal democracy under his watch.

At the APC NEC meeting, attended by President Bola Tinubu, a former Senate spokesman, Senator Ajibola Basiru, was also appointed as the APC National Secretary.

In his welcome address, Tinubu defended the legitimacy of the presidential poll. 

He said, “Some people baited us but we honoured their wishes and yet coasted to victory. Yes, we are facing challenges in court and I say this is one of the freest and fairest election in the history of Nigeria. As a democrat, those who cannot accept the result of a free and fair election, do not deserve the joy of victory.

‘’We have worked hard, and we have received the trophy. Winning an election is the first part of the process. What is next is good governance and quality service delivery. We must promote unity, peace, and love among all organs of the party.”

‘’You are the makers and drivers of the party. When we have all passengers inside the bus, the driver must not fall asleep. The brake must also work well. Party loyalty must exist.”

Former Federal Commissioner for Works and Housing, Olufemi Okunnu, has criticized Nigeria's political elite for lacking a spirit of sacrifice. Okunnu argued that Nigerian political leaders lack the ability to produce good leadership, as they often take advantage of the masses instead of supporting them. He criticized the rising poverty, rising government costs, and lack of capital projects. Okunnu also lamented the state of insecurity in Nigeria, stating that kidnappings and trespassing by herdsmen are commonplace. He called on political leaders to defend the fundamental right of every citizen to move around the country without hindrance and to live or reside and work in any part of the country.

The 13 state governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have agreed to ensure that one of them flies the party's flag during the election. They have attempted to wrest control of the party from other stakeholders, such as former Vice-President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido. They have announced themselves as the undisputed owners of the PDP, with plans to foist indirect mode of primary election on the party for the nomination of the presidential flag-bearer. To overcome this challenge, they plan to use the zonal leadership of the party to control these states, leading to fierce political wars in some zones.

The year 2021 was a difficult one for many Nigerians, with a new variant of COVID-19 pandemic, a debilitating strike by medical doctors, an economy that was walking on crutches, high prices of food items, and poverty. Insecurity has become a permanent feature of urban and rural life, and several governors and other community leaders have giving their citizens the option of self-help. This has led to the deabeen ths of many citizens in various parts of the country, and has thrown the nation into the circle of a close-to Banana Republic. Pro-democracy forces have a task to perform by wagging a fierce finger at anti-democracy forces. The Buhari government is expected to hand over to a new set of rulers in May 2023, and the two major parties APC and PDP are in the process of selecting their presidential candidates. Virtually all the minor parties have faded out of the scene, and a third force made up of pro-democracy activists, neophyte politicians and EndSARS revolt strategists has emerged

The medical team plus the American team took him to the medical centre, where he gave up.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria is facing a crisis as party leaders continue to give conflicting versions of the controversial Ondo State governorship primary. APC National Vice-Chairman Hilliard Eta criticised Pius Akinyelure's claim that the party's National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, National Secretary Mai Buni', and National Organising Secretary Osita Izunaso were responsible for the "rigging" of the primary election. Eta dismissed Akinyelure's claim as false and an attempt to please an unnamed benefactor. Eta also dismissed the claim that members overwhelmingly voted in favour of the adoption of the appeals committee report. Eta explained that the party's national chairman almost made a procedural error by asking those at the meeting to vote, and that it was agreed that the only report by the Governor Badaru Abubakar-led governorship primary election committee was left for adoption. Eta criticized Akinyelure for starting a fight because his preferred candidate didn't win the election and urged him to go back to Ondo himself with his team and the candidate he prefers.

Thousands of Nigerians protested the freezing of Governor Ayo Fayose's accounts and in solidarity with his government. The governor addressed a select group of journalists after the event, stating that he is a straight-forward person who respects humanity and fear God. He believes that it is a right of everyone in Nigeria to choose their leader based on principles and perceptions. The governor, who is 56 years old, recalls the misrule of 1984-1985, where the military suffered Nigerians and many leaders were clamped in chains using decree 2. The same thing President Buhari did at that time is what he is doing now, with appointments, taking away people's rights, and doing things without recourse for due process. The governor believes that a man that is grown cannot change, as he is born again and cannot change. He believes that President Buhari is living true to type, governing Nigeria today by his appointments, taking away people's rights, and doing things without recourse for due process.

Ondo State governor-elect Chief Rotimi Akeredolu stated that he did not acknowledge Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in his victory speech due to the expediency of doing so. He acknowledged President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, as the party's leaders. Akeredolu thanked the President and the leader of the party profusely for the leadership leading to the election. He also thanked the chairman for standing by the truth and for his position on the matter that led to the election. He stated that the party structure is clear, with the leadership represented by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. He also mentioned that Tinubu remained one of the party's leaders, noting that he had sent a congratulatory message to him after winning the election. Akeredolu said he would not deliberately probe the administration of outgoing governor Olusegun Mimiko but would not look back if he stumbled upon established cases of wrongdoing.

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has denied Senator Dino Melaye's allegation that he planned to kill him. Bello stated that the accusation did not come as a surprise to him, as he believes the police are capable of getting to the root of the allegation and doing justice to it once and for all. He also emphasized that security should never be politicised in the state and that Bello will be properly guided to make informed comments after the report of the investigation.Melaye expressed shock over the attempt on his life and promised not to relent in his fight against corruption, maladministration, impunity, and nepotism. He stated that four days after the attempt, the governor neither called nor visited him to know the state of affairs with him. Bello also dissociated himself from APC chairmanship campaign posters and reported fake reports on the 'Office of the Immediate Past Governor' fake in Kogi.Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has denied Senator Dino Melaye's allegation that he planned to kill him. Bello stated that the accusation was not surprising and that the case is under investigation by the police. He also emphasized that the government believes the police can do justice to the allegation and that security should never be politicized in the state. Bello urged Melaye to report the incident to the state's Chief Security Officer, as he would have nothing to say. Melaye expressed shock over the attempt on his life and pledged not to relent in his fight against corruption, maladministration, impunity, and nepotism.

Fresh facts have emerged on the reasons demolition of the symbolic Tumbin Giwa roundabout at kano Government House. The secretary to the state government Dr. baffa bichi has said the symbolic tumbin was demolished because it carried a christian cross, the state government demolished the roundabout which serves as a symbol of the state's Golden Jubilee on wednesday with the state governor saying the demolition was in public interest. He also said apart from the demolished roundabout, another flyover in the state which was constructed by the past administration was equally portraying a christian cross, he said it would also suffer the same fate. On whether they would pay compensation, the SSG urged the victims to claim their money from people that defrauded them. 

The Presidency has given further clarification on the bad weather which forced the cancellation of the visit to Zamfara State by President Muhammadu Buhari in spite of the planned visit. Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a statement sais as briefly explained by the president in a special broadcast to the people of the state, the sudden deterioration of the weather was the "sole and only reason for the cancellation of the visit. He said, "A kilometre of visibility is usually a standard landing minimum requirement but in case of Gusau on the day in question, this minimum requirement of 1,000 meter was down, fluctuating between 300-400 meters. Clearly, this was unsafe in the absence of precise instrument approaches that provide guidance for the pilots. The flights into Gusau were, in view of this, cancalled. The statement on the issue by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attacking the president for not making it to Gusau without this being planned ahead of the journey is shameful and disgraceful for a party that held the presidency of the country in rhe past. What is their own record.

Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of harassing and intimidating his aides and associates due to the imminent defeat of President Muhammadu Buhari in a free and fair election in 2019. Fayose stated that the truth he told Nigerians during his declaration of interest that Buhari and the APC had nothing good to offer Nigeria had pierced the conscience of APC leaders. However, he remains committed to rescuing the country from maladministration. Fayose described the arrest of two officials by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as the height of impunity, as a competent court of jurisdiction had ordered against such action. He argued that the agency's action showed desperation and political partisanship, and that not obeying court orders is not the hallmark of democracy but a virtue of anti-democratic agents. Fayose stressed that his ambition to contest the presidential election in 2019 is God's project and no human effort can thwart it.

Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has been accused of playing politics with the lives of the people and not taking the development of the state seriously. Amaechi, a former governor, accused Wike of twisting and turning the truth upside down to denigrate his towering image and achievements. Amaechi questioned Wike's alleged propensity to play politics with the safety and security of the lives of Rivers people, stating that no government should play politics with the safety and security of its citizens. Amaechi also challenged Wike to tell Rivers people the cult wars that led to the brutal murder of hundreds of Rivers people since the election that made him governor. Amaechi also questioned the Rivers Monorail project, which Wike said he would abandon, and questioned who Rivers people told him not to touch the project.

The main cause of the lingering crisis in Zamfara is largely dirty and petty politics by so-called political stalwarts who understand only their selfish interests. This is despite the fact that banditry predates the coming to power of Governor Bello Matawalle, and many of the elders and political bigwigs of the state were caught on record claiming to be looking for lasting solutions. General Gusau is a national figure who should be benefiting from his experience as a decorated military general, but has allowed his military instinct and razor-shap patriotism to be deadened by petty politics of bitterness and deceit. Former governor Attahiru Bafarawa has appointed himself as lords over the travails of the people of Zamfara, yet they have refused to stick with their troubles. They should steer clear of acts that distract Governor Matawalle from rescuing the state from total collapse.
