by Adetayo Olalekan
An authorised biography of President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed how he chose Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as his running mate for the 2015 presidential election despite opposition from national leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The book, 'Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria,' by Prof. John Paden, was presented at an event in Abuja. The book claims that Tinubu, then Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, and Osinbajo were forwarded to Buhari for him to pick a running mate shortly after the retired general emerged the party's candidate at its convention in Lagos. Paden did not disclose who forwarded the list of the three nominees to Buhari. Although Tinubu was one of the four persons who reviewed the book, he did not raise any objection to the author's claim.

by Terhemba Daka
Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, has joined the 2023 presidential election race, declaring his decision to vie for the number one seat. He met behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and said he would not be weighed down by Tinubu's entry into the race. He argued that the opposition party was not ready to cede the 2023 ticket to the Southeast, and that he stands a better chance if the APC throws the ticket open. He also proposed a political solution to the prevailing insecurity in the Southeast, which he said should not interfere with the judicial process. Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has declared his readiness to contest the APC Presidential ticket in 2023, if the party zones it to the South. He believes his own region, the Southeast, is ripe for the Presidency and has all it takes to match Tinubu's grit for grit and campaign for campaign.

2023: The dramas and the melodramatic
by Tunde Olusunle
The year 2022 has begun on a breezy note, with aspirants for elective offices at various levels making their intentions public. Alhassan Ado Garba, chief whip of the House of Representatives, recently announced the expansion of his family, from 27 to 28 children, and Yemi Osinbajo, the incumbent occupant of the office, is yet to make his intentions public. This has led to a bouquet of melodramas and comedies from the political front, which compels us to ruminate about the species of leaders we voted to serve us. Patrick Obahiagbon, Muhammed Gudaji Kazaure Danbatta, and Yakubu Doguwa have all provided succour to Nigerians in various ways, such as their grammatical bombast, molar-cracking lexical combinations, and explosive constructions. These have been instrumental in assuaging the nation's ever-increasing political temperature.

As Election Fever Tears APC Apart
by Alagbe Jesusegun
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2019, turning himself into an opposition figure for his own party, the All Progressives Congress. In an interview with the Voice of America in Hausa, Atiku criticized the Buhari-led administration, claiming that he was dumped by the government despite spending his resources on ensuring the President's rise to power in 2015. This came just hours after the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan, declared her readiness to support Atiku's bid for the presidency against President Buhari. Alhassan confirmed that she would support Atiku in 2019 because "President Buhari has not told anybody that he would contest the 2019 presidential election." However, political pundits believe Alhassan could not have openly declared her support for Atiku without the backing of other party members. The 2019 presidential election is expected to cause clashes among Buhari's and Atiku's supporters, as they may not have the same level of support.

Atiku files fresh case in US court seeking release of Tinubu's Academic Records After withdrawing suit from Lower court
by Alex Enumah
Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, has filed a separate case against President Bola Tinubu in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois after withdrawing an existing one before a circuit court in Illinois. The court dismissed the suit, stating that Atiku's academic records from primary school to university remained questionable, and the president's failure to identify a single former classmate was a joke. Atiku's supporters are rejoicing over the development, but the truth is coming and President Tinubu has no hiding place. The county court in Illinois dismissed the suit filed by Atiku, seeking release of Tinubu's academic records at Chicago State University. The dismissal was a result of Atiku's withdrawal of the suit, and Judge Patrick J. Heneghan dismissed the case without prejudice.

BAKARE; EMEFIELE S' CASE SIGNALS WAR AGAINST CORRUPTION IS CLAMPDOWN ON POLITICAL OPPONENTS.
by Newsmen
Pastor Tunde Bakare, serving overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, has described the suspension of Governor Godwin Emefiele by the Department of State Services (DSS) as a political vendetta by President Bola Tinubu. Bakare argued that the current president's war against corruption is primarily motivated by a clampdown on perceived political adversaries while other enemies of Nigeria remain untouched. Bakare also warned that Nigeria is regressing forcefully in a frantic race to the bottom on Tinubu's watch. He criticized Tinubu's presidential style as "leadership by impulse" and warned that Nigeria is regressing forcefully in a frantic race to the bottom. Bakare recalled warnings earlier that the politics of entitlement, or "emi lo kan," would breed an imperial presidency that would slide towards dictatorship and be intolerant of dissent. Bakare urged stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to listen attentively and take this address as a wake-up call to salvage a ship drifting in a socioeconomic and political Euroclydon. He condemned the thoughtless removal of petrol subsidies and placing military option before diplomacy in managing the military's takeover in Niger Republic as cases of Tinubu's leadership by impulse, which he argued had unwittingly plunged Nigeria into chaos.

Being PM Greatest Honour of My Life
by Nurudeen Alimi
David Cameron has expressed his gratitude for being British Prime Minister and urged his successor, Theresa May, to maintain Britain's close ties to the European Union. Cameron cited job creation, cutting the deficit, and legalizing gay marriage as key achievements of his premiership, stating that the economy is "immeasurably stronger" than when he took office six years ago. He thanked his family, including his three children and wife Samantha, who he described as the "love of his life." Cameron's resignation was accepted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace. He also urged May to keep Britain close to the European Union for trade, cooperation, and security benefits. Cameron's resignation came after Britons rejected his entreaties and voted to leave the EU in a referendum, undermining European efforts to forge greater unity and creating economic uncertainty across the 28-nation bloc. May must aim to limit the damage to British trade and investment while uniting a divided ruling Conservative party and a fractured nation.

Benue Assembly Begs Teachers To Shelve Protest
by Hope Abah Emmanuel
The Benue State House of Assembly has begged teachers and other workers affected by the ongoing verification exercise not to embark on any protest. Our correspondent reports that the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state had threatened a strike if the state government failed to resolve issues surrounding the mass demotion of its members by Wednesday (yesterday).
But the assembly in a statement signed by the spokesman of the speaker, Akume Raphael, moved to intervene in the matter by constituting an ad-hoc committee for the verification of staff/civil servants’ salaries and wage bills while begging the unions to allow it to carry out a fact-finding exercise towards resolving the problem. The committee has Esther Tiseer- Chairman, Matthew Damkor as member, Gyila Solomon- member, Manger Manger – member, Yanmar Ortese – member, Micheal Audu – member, Kennedy Angbo- member, Blessed Onah – member, Bemdoo Ipusu – member and Abraham Jabi – member.
Similarly, the court also dismissed the originating summons by the chairmen against the Benue State governor and five others challenging their suspension, on the grounds that the same reliefs sought in the suit before the court were granted by the National Industrial Court, which is a court of coordinate jurisdiction. Reacting to the development, the chairman of Kwande of Local Government Area, Orjiir Gbande, described the judgment as sound, saying it is also a victory for democracy.

Buhari Affirm Nigeria's commitment to democracy in west Africa
by Bolaji Ogundele
Nigeria is committed to the entrenchment of democracy and good governance in the West African sub-region, President Muhammadu Buhari was quoted as saying yesterday. He attended the second term inauguration of The Gambia President, Adamawa Barrow, in Banjul. The presence of President Buhari at Barrow's inauguration, besides marking out the affinity between Nigeria and The Gambia, also indicated the value that Nigeria places on the need to strengthen democratic governance, the rule of law and promotion of fundamental human rights in the sub-region. ECOWAS intervened to restore democracy to The Gambia five years ago, with the strong backing of the AU and UN. Volunteers from Nigeria's Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme will soon be made available to assist The Gambia to play active parts in vital sectors.

Buhari Now Operating as Part-Time President- Fayose
by Ramson Oladimeji
The Governor of Ekiti, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that President Muhammadu Buhari has become a part-time and ceremonial President, only seen during the Friday Jumat service at the Presidential Villa. Fayose believes that Nigerians should be properly informed about the well-being of their President and that the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, should constitutionally act as the President. He accused close allies of deliberately shielding Buhari and preventing him from attending to his health to continue running the government on the basis of "Mr President has directed" even when the President did not direct anything. Fayose insisted that Nigerians must hear the voice of their President and see him physically, not through surrogates or the cabal operating behind the scenes. He said that it is only when the President is seen and heard physically that Nigerians will believe that they are not being ruled by a part-time and ceremonial President, whose powers are being exercised on his behalf by some cabal.

Turkey is preparing an extradition request for US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkey blames for a failed coup. Gulen has said he would obey any extradition ruling from the US but said that President Tayyip Erdogan had staged the putsch. Turkey's justice and foreign ministries will write to Western governments to demand the return of Gulen's supporters from those countries. Gulen, who is living in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania, denied any involvement in the coup. US Secretary of State John Kerry said the US had not yet received a formal request from Turkey for Gulen's extradition. Meanwhile, Turkey has widened its crackdown on suspected supporters of a failed military coup, arresting Gen. Bekir Ercan Van, commander of the Incirlik Air Base, and an "order of detention" for Col. Crisis rocks kebbi APC as factional leadership emerges
by Aliyu M. Hamagam (Birnin Kebbi)
Crisis has hit the Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the emergence of a factional leadership under a former Chairman of the party, Bala Sani Kangiwa. A top shot of the party and member of the new faction, Abdulllahi Mohammed Lamba, said the division became necessary following impunity in the conduct of the last state congress. His faction enjoys the support of senators Adamu Aliero and Yahaya Abdullahi of Kebbi Central and North senatorial districts, and is in control of all the 21 local government offices of the party. A federal lawmaker from the state has described the emergence of the faction as part of moves by Aliero's camp to seek attention after losing its structure during the just concluded party congress. Patrick Obahiagbon, a former member of the House of Representatives and Chieftain of the APC, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the top echelon of the party to propound a pathway ahead of the 2023 general elections.
He also advised party members not to allow their personal and selfish interests to override the interest of the party. However, efforts to speak to the State Chairman of APC, Abubakar Kana Zuru, proved abortive as he did not pick calls to his number or reply to a text message sent to him. However, a source at the APC national secretariat said the Buni-led national caretaker committee would move in fast to address the issue.

The protesters, under the auspices of the Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Nigeria (CCSG), displayed banners and chanted solidarity songs in Abuja, insisting that heeding the call would save the nation from possible instability. The CSOs do not intend to undermine the right of political parties or party's constitution by making the patriotic call, maintaining that they deem it a worthy sacrifice and a patriotic love for the country if political parties could jettison all other interests and ambition for the peace, unity and stability of the nation's democracy.

Although the economy remains a challenge, the Federal Government has introduced measures to revamp it. Osinbajo acknowledged that the fight against corruption appears slow due to the slow nature of the nation's justice system, but all hands are on the deck to ensure that all stolen funds are recovered and culprits brought to justice. On security, the government has made significant achievements in the North East, where the Boko Haram sect challenged the nation's sovereignty. The government has reorganized and equipped its Armed Forces and revitalized the regional Multinational Joint Task Force. In the Niger Delta, the government is engaging with local communities to understand their grievances and create solutions. The government is working with state governments to design effective strategies and interventions to bring the menace to an end.

Dogara: Return of banana Peels
by Ndubuisi Orji
The National Assembly has been plagued by controversies since the democratic dispensation began. The 8th Assembly has faced threats from the leadership of the legislature, sending speakers and Senate presidents to political obscurity. Last week, Speaker Hon. Yakubu Dogara removed Abdulmumin Jibrin as chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, sparking a war of words between Dogara and the former chairman. The decision was reportedly due to protests over alleged lopsidedness in the spread of constituency projects in the 2016 budget. The chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, Hon Abdulrazak Namdas, accused Jubrin of misconduct, incompetence, immaturity, disregard for colleagues, and abuse of the budgetary process. However, Jibrin denies any wrongdoing and claims that he did his best as Chairman Appropriations. The controversy has turned into the biggest scandal in the National Assembly of the Fourth Republic.

Don't Lose Hope In Nigeria, Ositelu Tells Nigerians
by Andrew Ojiezel
Isaac Babatunde Ositelu, a candidate for president in the general election of 2019, urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country's transformation into a more powerful Republic. He stated that Nigeria will undoubtedly rise from the ashes of the current tribulations destroying the nation and its population despite the current economic doldrums, pervasive insecurity, religious discord, and political upheavals. Ositelu, a project manager and businessman, urged Nigerians to put their recent political disappointments behind them and prepare for the transition in 2023 by registering for and obtaining a permanent voter card (PVC), guarding it jealously, and making sure their future was not mortgaged through fraudulent disenfranchisement by politicians who will promise to offer them favourable terms..

Electoral bill: Fresh controversy as Senate, Reps approve different versions
by Abdullateef Salau
The two houses of the parliament yesterday passed different versions of the Electoral Act Bill; the Senate supplied the re-amended bill for direct mode, whilst the House only gave direct and indirect mode. This has sparked a new debate in the National Assembly. The National Assembly already enacted the measure on November 18; the Commission will keep an eye on it. The Red Chamber changed Clause 84 (which refers to the ways of choosing candidates for elective seats as indirect primaries or consensus). There wasn't any agreement. After the House returned to plenary, Femi Gbajabiamila addressed the amendment and stated that only Clause 84 had been discussed and approved by the House. No other provisions of the electoral act modification had been taken into consideration or approved.

His son, Olamijuwonlo, announced his death in a statement. His contributions to the socio-political and economic development of Nigeria and humanity remain indelible. Mrs. Florence Ajimobi and Kolapo Kola-Daisi expressed shock over the unexpected death of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, a patriotic, hardworking, leader in the APC fold in Oyo State and Nigeria. The meeting of the Ajimobi Legacy Forum was abruptly terminated due to the death of the former governor, who was Oyo State Chairman of the APC Reconciliation Committee. Fayose Asks FG to increase Corps Members Allowance
by Kamarudeen Ogundele
Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has called on the Federal Government to increase the monthly allowance of National Youth Service Corps members due to the dwindling purchasing power of the naira. Fayose made the call during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony for the 2017 Batch 'A' Stream I of the NYSC at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ise/Orun/Emure Ekiti. He stressed that the N19,800 monthly allowance was no longer sufficient for the survival of corps members and called for an urgent review of the allowance. The governor reiterated his commitment to the well-being of corps members serving in the state and promised to give further assistance to the NYSC. He lamented the monumental increase in the population of graduates annually without corresponding development in the facilities, leading to huge infrastructural decay in the NYSC camps nationwide. Fayose also assured the state government that the state government would continue to acknowledge and reward deserving youths with state honours award, automatic employment, and cash gifts. He encouraged corps members to go into farming, fishery, snail farming, and tap into the agriculturally-friendly environment of the state.

The Federal Government in Nigeria plans to spend N400 million on vehicles for former presidents and heads of state if the 2017 estimated spending by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) is approved. The funds for these allowances were not openly budgeted for in the proposal. The SGF, Babachir David Lawal, defended the planned expenditure before the Senate Committee on Federal Character. The committee agreed that the 10% release by the Ministry of Finance for the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation in 2016 was insufficient, which may indicate a problem between the Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance. The committee will investigate the poor release to the OSGF and seek to understand the issue. The request for more funding by the OSGF is considered "justified" by committee chairman, Senator Tijjani Kaura.

FG Moves to Reopen N100bn Fraud Case against Odili
by Akinkuotu Eniola
Nigeria's Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay, has criticized Justice Ibrahim Buba for granting a perpetual injunction to former Governor of Rivers State, Chief Peter Odili, which has halted his prosecution. Buba's order has prevented the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and other government anti-corruption agencies from prosecuting or arresting Odili, who was accused of embezzling N100bn of Rivers State money during his eight-year tenure. Sagay argued that the current injunction is unconstitutional and unconstitutional, stating that it removed the prosecutorial powers of the police and prosecution in Nigeria. He urged law enforcement agencies not to give up and suggested that any judge who grants an order of perpetual injunction against investigation, interrogation, and arrest should be regarded as having committed a serious act of wrongdoing, which should merit disciplinary action by the National Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. The case could be reopened, and measures are being put in place to ensure such an order is never granted again.

FG Planning to Re-Arrest Ekiti Lawmakers, Others- Fayose

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused the Federal Government of sending policemen from Abuja to arrest 11 members of the state House of Assembly. The move comes after a failed attempt by the Department of State Services to arrest lawmakers. The alleged clampdown on legislators is expected to begin on Tuesday night. The move is attributed to TKO Aluko's malicious outburst that those listed for arrest stockpiled arms during the governorship election. Fayose vowed to resist any attempt to use the police to harass lawmakers and government officials in the state. The APC chairman, Jide Awe, and TKO Aluko, who are wanted for alleged murder and perjury, have not been arrested. A leader of the APC in Ekiti said there was no big deal in inviting public officials to explain certain actions and inactions.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governors at the weekend foiled a plan to shift the party's convention, voting for it to hold on February 26. Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni was mandated to discuss the date with the President ahead of the committee's meeting. The Progressive Governors Forum overruled the CECPC's proposal to postpone the convention, citing cases of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which conducted its national convention despite the fact that its immediate past National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, is still in court. The governors agreed on a February 26 timeline for the convention, but with a consensus that the date will not be announced until after Buni's consultations with the President. Buni assured women delegates of the party's resolve to give concession to women and youth during the convention, and urged them to seek positions at the convention and during next year's election.

The party's constitution is clear, and the convention has the power to set up committees. However, the party's conscience has advised discussions to continue, and reconciliation negotiations are still ongoing. The youths have mobilized resources to achieve an "Igbo President" in 2019, stating that the Igbo will no longer play a "second fiddle" in Nigerian politics. Their position on the 2019 presidential election was influenced by the North's opposition to restructuring calls and the quit order given to Igbo living in the North by a coalition of Northern groups. The youths believe that a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction would pacify all Igbo, including agitators, and prevent Biafran agitation.

Issues that will shape 2023
by Cyrus Ademola
Nigeria is facing a leadership crisis in 2023, and that leadership is the sole determinant of its success or failure. Politicians are mindful of the fact that Nigerians have learnt from their past and have a renewed energy and aspiration to make the same mistake come 2023. Leadership expert and teacher, John C. Maxwell, has a simple yet profound maxim that everything rises and falls on leadership, and Nigeria is a country blessed with rare and rich mineral resources. The upcoming election will determine the trajectory of our nation in the following years, and the issue of federalism, for example, through legislative restructuring of the constitution is a good reference point. Nigerians deserve more than colourful rhetorics and sloganeering, and must ask tough questions on restructuring.

Jonathan Under Pressure to Abandon PDP Peace Process
by Olusola Fabiyi
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been pressured to abandon the peace process he initiated in the troubled Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Investigations revealed that the former President was no longer interested in bringing the two factions in the party together. National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has distanced himself from the peace process. The party under Sheriff will no longer take part in the peace process, which ended in confusion about two weeks ago. Sheriff led members of his National Working Committee out of a meeting on April 6, aimed at discussing the party's crisis. The former President had promised to set up a 40-man team to find a political solution to the crisis. The caretaker committee spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye, stated that the reluctance of Jonathan to continue with the process could be due to the pulling out of the process by the Sheriff group. Some members of the party, including about two governors, have called on the former President to jettison the idea of setting up any committee.

Judiary: Cases, personalities to look out for this year
by John Chucks Azu
The judiciary is preparing to resume for the New Year, 2022, with thousands of cases that were adjourned in the previous year set to get substantive hearing. These include the Supreme Court's judgment on Executive Order 10, the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, the Federal High Court's hearing of the suit by 36 states governors seeking to stop deductions of $418 million Paris Club refund debt, and an appeal challenging Buhari's election. These cases are expected to shape the art industry in 2022. The Court of Appeal in Abuja had fixed February 22, 2022, for hearing in the appeal seeking to nullify President Muhammadu Buhari's election and swear in Abubakar Atiku as president. The appellate court had ordered the appellants in the matter, the Incorporated Trustees of the Civil Society Observatory for Constitutional and Legal Compliance (CSOCLC) to regularise and serve the process to defence lawyers to President Buhari to enable them to respond to the claims before the adjourned date. On February 25, 2022, an Ikeja High Court has fixed the date as judgment day in the five kidnapping cases currently involving Evans.

Labour Party Crisis Gets Messier as Oparah Drags Abure to Court
by Chuks Okocha
The financial crisis and allegations of forgery against the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, are escalating in Nigeria. The suspended National Treasurer, Oluchi Oparah, has brought Abure and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to court, urging the court to compel the anti-graft body to investigate the national chairman. She also urged the court to quash her six months suspension by the party as she was not given a fair hearing before being suspended by the party leadership. A former acting national chairman, Maria Lebeke, has corroborated Oparah’s allegations by accusing Abure of forging her signature when she acted as national chairman after then leader, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, died in December 2020. However, the plight of Abure worsened yesterday as chairmen of the party across the 36 states unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in him and asked him to step down with immediate effect.Oparah wrote a letter to the EFCC requesting a formal petition against the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, for several grievous offences bordering on forgery, embezzlement of the 3rd Defendant’s funds, and abuse of office and failure to account for the 3rd Defendant’s funds at his disposal. She stated that the most grievous act of impropriety by the 2nd Defendant pertains to his forgery of the signature of the late Alhaji Abdulsalam, 61 days after Abdulsalam’s death with which he withdrew monies from the account of the defendant.

He spent the following ten years conducting research and disseminating knowledge in the ivory tower in order to enlighten and advance society. He stated that the courtesies he extended to President Muhammadu Buhari during a rally in the state were done for his position as President and had nothing to do with the party he belongs to. Mimiko stated that he had briefed Buhari on the security situation in his state ahead of the elections and that he owed the responsibility to Nigerians to inform him of any credible threats to security. He also stated that he was concentrating on the case in court and that if his candidate wins, the state would erupt in joy.

Ministerial list: Questions over APC’s continued marginalization of South East
by Romanus Ugwu
The South East geopolitical zone in Nigeria has been short-changed with five ministerial slots, causing dissatisfaction among stakeholders like Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu. The Pan socio-cultural organization has called for justice and fairness in state creation, stating that the region is in a difficult position politically, economically, and socially. The South-East is denied federal revenue allocation and resource distributions based on states. The Pan socio-cultural organization appeals to President Tinubu to restore justice, equity, and fairness in Nigeria, but has been deaf to the appeals and requests from stakeholders. This action may have been a confirmation of the ruling party's position in the South East geopolitical zone, which has not significantly changed in the previous eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

Niger Assembly rejects commissioners’ list over poor Christian inclusion
by Chika Otuchikere
The Niger State House of Assembly has suspended the screening of the commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Mohammed Bago, decrying the inclusion of “only three Christians†in the 30-nominee list.
The lawmakers described as unfair the inclusion of only 10 per cent of Christians in the list.
The PUNCHÂ reliably gathered that the lawmakers met at the weekend after the Speaker, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, summoned an emergency meeting.
The lawmakers decided to suspend the screening of the commissioner-nominees until there was at least 25 per cent Christian representation.
Â
The lawmaker representing Lavun Constituency, Yusuf Dabban, while speaking at the annual state convention of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Niger State chapter in Kutigi, Lavun Local Government Area, said, “Christians and Muslims in the state are one. We (lawmakers) have asked that the list be adjusted.â€Â The list has Elizabeth Shaba from Paikoro, Ibrahim Ijah from Tafa, and Maurice Magaji from Munya, as the only Christians. “When we received the list, we looked at it and discovered that there is no iota of guidance. And we, the lawmakers, especially the principal officers, are already making a recommendation that Christians form 30 per cent or at least 25 per cent of the executive council.

The Niger Delta crisis in Nigeria has been a contentious issue, with the Federal Government implementing the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Trans-Human Movement Law. Nigeria's past leadership has been criticised for their incompetence and deceitfulness in handling the Boko Haram insurgency and Niger Delta militancy. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is expected to lead a delegation to Bayelsa State to restore peace in the region. The Nigerian Oil and Gas Landlords' Association of Nigeria (OMPALAN) has urged the Presidency to seek wider consultation with oil and gas stakeholders to address the crisis. The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) is not keen on meeting with security agents representing the Federal Government at proposed peace talks. The Federal Government has been advised to embrace dialogue rather than resort to war to resolve the crisis. The Federal Government has returned to the negotiation table with ex-warlords from the Niger Delta in a fresh initiative to restore peace.

Nigeria has not Fared Better Under APC- PDP Reps
by Ameh John
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, claiming that the two-year-old administration has worsened poverty and hunger in Nigeria. The opposition party members criticized the government's economic policies and its N500bn social welfare programme for vulnerable groups, arguing that Nigerians must have realized they made a mistake by voting the All Progressives Congress into power. Majority Leader Femi Gbajabiamila reacted that the government's fight against corruption, weakening of insurgency in the North-East, and the gradual recovery of the naira against the US dollar were enough testimonies of performance by the government. Minority Leader Leo Ogor, however, criticized the government for not implementing any significant economic reforms and criticized the methodology used to distribute the N500bn social welfare program. He also noted that Nigerians were not eating better food or having improved access to basic amenities. The opposition party leader, Gbajabiamila, defended the APC government's performance in its midterm scorecard, stating that the Buhari-led administration had done well in its efforts against insecurity, corruption, and poverty.

NNPP Factions Differ Over Kwankwaso’s Supension, BoT Chair’s Expulsion
by Terkula igidi
The crisis rocking the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) took a new turn on Tuesday as the two factions held parallel meetings and announced the expulsion of the BoT chairman and suspension of its national leader.
Daily Trust reports that the National Executive Committee (NEC) met in Abuja and ratified the expulsion of the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Agbo Major, with 14 others. The BoT of the party led by Dr Aniebonam met in Lagos and suspended the presidential candidate in the February 25 general election, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.Â
Kwankwaso was conspicuously absent during the NEC meeting held at Bolingo Hotel, Abuja, which had the governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the speaker of the state assembly, Alhaji Jibrin Falgore, in attendance.
The NNPP has been rocked by a crisis recently as its National Working Committee (NWC) dissolved seven state executive committees as well as the founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Agbo Major.Â
The NEC alleged the BoT members and others affected were expelled for forming parallel boards, National Working Committee (NWC) and State Working Committees (SEC).
The acting national chairman of the party, Alhaji Abba Kawu, said a seven-member disciplinary committee was earlier set up by the NWC whose report led to the suspension of the state executive committees.
While explaining that the NEC was aimed at restructuring the party, Ali urged those who have won elections on the platform of the party to be good ambassadors and emulate Kwankwaso.
He also said the meeting intended to change the logo of the party, adding that there was a need to deliberate on the issue so that collectively an acceptable logo can be unveiled.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the BoT, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, who spoke after a ‘special general assembly’ in Lagos said Kwankwaso has been suspended for six months over anti-party activities.

Obaseki/Shaibu Feud: Anxiety, suspense as Edo Assembly sits today
by Ozioruva Aliu BENIN CITY
The Edo polity is astir following the raging feud between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu. Both camps were wrapped in anxiety, suspense and apprehension ahead of today’s resumption of sitting of the state House of Assembly.
Shaibu is battling perceived impeachment moves against him. The apprehension is over whether or not the lawmakers will embark on the purported impeachment plot of the deputy governor despite the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court directive of maintaining “status quo ante bellum†pending the determination of the suit filed by Shaibu to stop the alleged plot to remove him.
However, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Blessing Agbebaku, said though the matter is in court, he cannot say much on the issue, adding there is no plan to impeach the deputy governor.
He told Vanguard on phone: “I don’t want to talk about it because the case is in court but there is no plan like that. There is no iota of truth about this issue of impeachment and the governor has no such plans because if there is anything like that, won’t I know? People are just carrying rumours.â€

It has earmarked N10 billion to support any candidate of Igbo extraction that emerges for the presidential race, and has met with religious groups and clerics in the North. It has also promised to lobby all parts of the country for power shift to the South East region. The Ohanaeze delegation argued that there should be no more abusive words between the North and the South East, and that Igbo have investments worth over N1 trillion in the North and can take over from President Muhammadu Buhari. Shettima responded that it was good to negotiate when seeking political power, and that nobody achieved good results through threats. Ondo Guber: APC Crisis Worsens as Stakeholders Meeting Ends in Deadlock
by Ugwu Romanus
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State chapter is facing a rift ahead of the state's governorship election. A peace meeting at the party's national headquarters ended in deadlock, with Deputy National Chairman, North, Shauibu Lawal stating that differences had been resolved, but the state Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, still has the endorsement of the party's national leadership. Kekemeke, however, denied any preference and stated that his preferred aspirant would be the person who garnered votes from the delegates. The crisis has worsened as leaders of the party under the aegis of the Ondo APC Elders Forum have flayed the ousted Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke, claiming his attitude almost ruined the party. The party elders have urged their National Chairman, Chief Odigie Oyegun, to resolve the crisis before the governorship primary election and at the national level to resolve the impasse among aggrieved members to prevent the party's collapse.

Ondo Senator Causes Row in Senate over Defection
by Ojibor Ojiabor
A row in the Senate ensued after Ondo South senator Yele Omogunwa defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement of Omogunwa's defection led to a walkout when Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki overruled the demand to declare Omogunwa's seat vacant. This may have strained the relationship between majority APC senators and their minority counterparts in PDP. Minority Leader Godswill Akpabio raised a point of order, citing the 1999 Constitution, and argued that there was no leadership crisis in PDP following a Supreme Court judgment. However, Saraki ruled Akpabio out of order, which angered PDP senators. Senator Dino Melaye justified Omogunwa's defection, citing Section 68 (g,h) of the 1999 Constitution. Senator Peter Nwaboshi argued that Melaye's intervention was a breach of procedure. The situation escalated into a row, with PDP senators demonstrating their disapproval of the situation.

Ondo: INEC Meets Ibrahim, Akeredolu, Oke, Others Tuesday
by Olusola Fabiyi
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a meeting with all candidates for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State for next Tuesday. The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the electoral body would not transfer the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Segun Agbaje, before the conduct of the election as being canvassed by some people in the state. The meeting will also be attended by security agencies, civil society organizations, and local and foreign observers registered by INEC.Aspirants expected at the meeting include Jimoh Ibrahim, Rotimi Akeredolu, Chief Olusola Oke, and Dr. Olu Agunloye of the Social Democratic Party. The commission is ready for the election and appeals to all aspirants to play by the rules. The commission has no plan to redeploy the Ondo REC, Mr. Segun Agbaje, who is one of the commission's best and is doing a wonderful job in the state. The commission has learned from the just-concluded elections in the United States of America, which were monitored by officials of the commission. The use of technology in terms of electronic voting is instructive, and Americans have absolute trust in the integrity of their electoral system. Nigerians should emulate this and have confidence in INEC.

In a statement he released in Abuja, Opeyemi expressed regret over the primaries' inadequate organisation and reassured his supporters that he was still pursuing the position of state governor. Osun APC; Hostilities worsen as Aregbesola confirms own faction
by Timothy Agbor, Osogbo
The internal crisis rocking the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened and there is no resolution in sight before the national convention and governorship primary scheduled for February 2022. Ogbeni Rauf Aregesola, the immediate past governor of the state and Minister of Interior, has revealed that there are two factions in the state chapter at present, one chaired by Hon Razaq Salinsile and one chaired by Elder Lowo Adebiyi. Aregbesola's outburst has rubbished last year's intervention by the national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Governor Bisi Akande. President Muhammadu Buhari must reconcile the political warlords. The feud between two gladiators, Oyetola's loyalists and those of Aregbesola, is worsening despite efforts by the national leadership of the party to reconcile them and place the party on the path of victory. Salinsile is heading the minister's faction of the executives while Prince Gboyega Famodun is heading the faction loyal to Oyetola. Both factions are bent on producing separate governorship candidates for the forthcoming governorship poll. A political group, 'Ileri Oluwa', is rooting and canvassing for the governor's re-election, while the pro-Aregbesola group, TOP, is doing everything possible to frustrate the incumbent's second term aspiration. A party source told The Guardian that the strategy is to repay Oyetola for how he rubbished his immediate predecessor by reversing most of his policies.

Override Buhari’s veto or delete direct primary, PDP govs tell NASS
by Azimazi Momoh Jimoh
The National Assembly resumes plenary today after the Yuletide break, and governors elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on legislators not to sustain President Muhammadu Buhari's veto of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021. They re-echoed the position of the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, that the early conclusion of the amendment is vital for credible elections. They also lamented the continued state of insecurity in the country, persistent and ceaseless flow of Nigerians' blood on a daily basis, and the near collapse of security situation. They urged Mr President to reconsider his position and consider decentralisation and restructuring of the security architecture as the most viable solution, together with proper arming, funding and training requirements for security agencies. The governors and CSOs have called on the legislature and President Buhari to conclude the process of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by January 31, first by retransmitting the bill to the President for assent by Friday, January 21, and then by assenting to the bill within one week. The CSOs warned that further delay on the conclusion of the amendment process was inimical to the preparations for Ekiti and Osun elections.

Dave Umahi, has unleashed terror on innocent Nigerians. Hon. Debo Ologunagba, national publicity secretary of the People Democratic Party (PDP), claimed that since Umahi switched from the PDP to the APC, he has allegedly turned to terrorizing innocent Nigerians, particularly PDP members, in an effort to instill a sense of siege mentality among the people of Ebonyi State as a prelude to rigging the general elections in 2023. He claimed that Hon. Linus Abaa Okorie, a prominent member of the House of Representatives, had just been listed as wanted by Umahi without any allegations or charges being brought against him.

Oghuma alleged that many APC members were unable to vote in the village because the police allegedly chased them away. The development affected the performance of his party in the area. The APC chief said, “Orbih influenced the policemen in Ogbona. Many APC members were driven away while PDP members were busy thumb-printing. Even a retired commissioner of police is aware of this. As a party leader in the unit, I tried to contact other APC leaders. I could only watch from afar. This affected us in the area.â€Orbih dismissed the allegations, saying Oghuma was out to please Governor Adams Oshiomhole. He said, to a large extent, the election was peaceful in the local government area. Observers who visited the polling units saw that the election was free and fair. He also urged the new management and members of the National Executive Committee of the PDP as well as the National Working Committee to speak with one voice in ensuring that the South is given what is due to it.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors and board of Trustees have backed efforts to end the crisis in the party. The party's National Caretaker Committee, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, will name members of its reconciliation committee on Monday. The committee will work with those nominated by the factional National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff. The crisis began after the party lost the 2015 presidential election and worsened in March this year when its attempt at holding a national convention was thwarted by party leaders. The two factional chairmen's desire to bring peace back to the main opposition party was applauded by the governors and other members of the caucus. The committee will discuss ways of moving the party forward and will be inaugurated on Monday next week. The PDP will use all legal means to get its mandate back from affected lawmakers, including taking back seats from former governor Joshua Dariye.

PDP Picks Candidate Today
by Ndubuisi Orji
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to conduct the Edo governorship election primaries, with 576 delegates from 192 wards in the state converged on Hardball Court, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City, Nigeria. The primaries are crucial for the party's quest to regain the governorship seat in the state, which it lost in 2008. Three aspirants—former governorship candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Chief Solomon Edebiri, former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and former majority leader of the state House of Assembly, Mathew Iduoriyekemwn—will participate in the primaries. The party has provided a level playing field for all aspirants, and the party has been transparent in all its dealings with all the aspirants. The battle for the governorship seat is half won if the PDP gets it right, but some argue that rancor-free primaries would have done the party a great disservice.

PDP, CLO Attack Buhari over Decision to Work from Home
by John Alechenu
The Peoples Democratic Party and the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) have criticised President Muhammdu Buhari's decision to work from home. Buhari was absent from a Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, and the Presidency blamed his absence on the Easter holiday. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated that Buhari only decided to work from home on Wednesday and that he wanted to rest today. However, the PDP urged the Presidency to reveal Buhari's health status, citing the era of manipulation of his health status by a cabal within the Presidency. The CLO President, Igho Akeregha, criticised the APC government's fraudulent setup and called for Buhari to resign if his health could not sustain the pressure of work. He argued that hanging around office and trying to protect the cabal is not good for the country and that Buhari's ardent fight against corruption should be remembered.

PDP, LP mock APC as NEC ratifies Ganduje party chair
by Adebayo Folorunsho-Francis
The opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party have berated the ruling All Progressives Congress for appointing former governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the new National Chairman of the ruling party, saying the 73-year-old politician has corruption baggage hanging around his neck.
However, Ganduje, who emerged APC National Chairman on Thursday at the party’s National Executive Committee in Abuja, promised to promote unity among party members, carry out reforms and adhere to internal democracy under his watch.
At the APC NEC meeting, attended by President Bola Tinubu, a former Senate spokesman, Senator Ajibola Basiru, was also appointed as the APC National Secretary.
In his welcome address, Tinubu defended the legitimacy of the presidential poll.Â
He said, “Some people baited us but we honoured their wishes and yet coasted to victory. Yes, we are facing challenges in court and I say this is one of the freest and fairest election in the history of Nigeria. As a democrat, those who cannot accept the result of a free and fair election, do not deserve the joy of victory.
‘’We have worked hard, and we have received the trophy. Winning an election is the first part of the process. What is next is good governance and quality service delivery. We must promote unity, peace, and love among all organs of the party.â€
‘’You are the makers and drivers of the party. When we have all passengers inside the bus, the driver must not fall asleep. The brake must also work well. Party loyalty must exist.â€

The year 2021 was a difficult one for many Nigerians, with a new variant of COVID-19 pandemic, a debilitating strike by medical doctors, an economy that was walking on crutches, high prices of food items, and poverty. Insecurity has become a permanent feature of urban and rural life, and several governors and other community leaders have giving their citizens the option of self-help. This has led to the deabeen ths of many citizens in various parts of the country, and has thrown the nation into the circle of a close-to Banana Republic. Pro-democracy forces have a task to perform by wagging a fierce finger at anti-democracy forces. The Buhari government is expected to hand over to a new set of rulers in May 2023, and the two major parties APC and PDP are in the process of selecting their presidential candidates. President Buhari Should Respect the Rule of Law
by Onyekpere Eze
Nations grow through the application of principles, the rule of law, common sense, and respect for citizens' rights and freedoms. The rule of law is an empirical and scientific approach to governance and problem-solving, focusing on the definition of citizens' rights, liberties, and duties. In the last 18 months, the Federal Government has selectively obeyed court orders, treating them with levity without untoward consequences. This is a violation of the law and promotes anarchy. The government should not justify the continued detention of persons ordered to be released by courts, but rather through brutish application of might. The emerging pattern of selective enforcement of laws should be about strengthening the path of the law, not looking at anyone's face. Investigations and prosecutions should be done without looking at the faces involved, and the law should not be based on loyalty, party affiliations, or blood relationships. The rule of law is not about national saviours or personal egos, but about defining the boundaries of citizens' rights, liberties, and duties.

The National Assembly will send an amended version of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2010 to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent before Saturday. The reworked bill by the Senate and House of Representatives will be passed today after meeting behind closed doors with Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The President had refused to assent to the bill, citing the direct primary provided for political party primaries to select candidates for elections as his core reason. Lawan said the grey areas had been attended to and the bill would be sent back to Buhari before the end of the week. Lawan is optimistic that the cleaning process will not take more than a day, but if it does, it has to be early next week. Before meeting with Buhari, Lawan had listed the need to rejig the controversial bill and the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution as the major planks of the Senate's Legislature Agenda. The Senate dissolved into an executive session to discuss the response of Mr. President on the bill.

Pressure Mounts On APC To Throw Party Chairmanship Race Open
by George Agba
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is under intense pressure to jettison micro-zoning of the national chairman position and allow all aspirants vie for the party's top seat ahead of the february 26 national convention. With less than 27 days to the national convention, the party leadership is yet to officially announce the zone arrangement of office along geo-political regions. Instead, the Mai Mala Buni-led All Progressives Congress (APC) had on several occasions spurned reports that it has zoned the offices, and all aspirants in the contest are from North at the moment, some of the zoning projections which have been refuted by the party however favours the North Central as the region to produce the national chairman. Meanwhile, All Progressives Congress (APC) youths, under eagis of Progressives Youths have begun intense lobbying to ensure adequate representation of young people in the new leadership of the party ahead of the forthcoming national convention. Participants were drafted from the six South Western states and Kwara. This agenda is driven by the All Progressives Congress National Youth Lobby Committee under the leadership of Ismaeel Ahmed.

Resign now, Diri tells appointees eyeing elective offices
by Julius Osahon
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has called on his appointees to resign if they have any political ambition ahead of the 2023 elections. He noted that the administration still had time to deliver on its promises before the next governorship election in late 2023 and that cabinet members eyeing other elective offices must not combine politics with governance. He also said there would be a periodic evaluation of activities of various ministries this year to ensure that set targets were met. The Bayelsa West Patriotic Front (BWPF) has urged Senator Seriake Dickson to remain committed to the principle of rotation and base his actions on equity, fairness and sense of belonging. Despite the theatrics being displayed by the former governor in his bid to scuttle the existing rotational agreement, Diri should stand firm to uphold the peaceful co-existence in the ruling PDP and show true statesmanship and upright leadership qualities.

At the All Progressives Congress' South-West Zonal public hearing on true federalism in Ibadan, some South-West governors and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, backed the call for restructuring of Nigeria. Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, argued that the ongoing call for restructuring indicates a need to review the current governance system, which gives more powers to the central government. He suggested that local governments should be subjected to the state, with a review of the revenue allocation formula in favor of states. Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, emphasized the importance of consenting parties in deciding how they wish to live together or be governed. Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, supported restructuring, aligning with the Yoruba Summit's call for a return to regional systems. Alaafin of Oyo argued that Nigeria must be restructured to avoid a break-up like the one experienced in the old Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Saraki, El-Rufai Instigated Buhari not to Pick me as VP- Tinubu
by Odebode Niyi
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has accused Senate President Bukola Saraki and Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir el-Rufai of working against the plan to make him President Muhammadu Buhari's running mate in the 2015 presidential election. Tinubu claimed that Saraki, El-Rufai, and other stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected to the APC in the build-up to the elections, instigating Buhari and some APC chieftains not to pick him as the would-be Vice-President. He claimed that the party members' arguments were not genuine and that El-Rufai had the intention to ensure the emergence of Pastor Tunde Bakare as Buhari's running mate. Tinubu also claimed that some senators and governors defected from the PDP to the APC met with him on the eve of the primaries to know if there was an agreement between him and Buhari to run together. He argued that the support given was fundamental to Buhari clinching the party nomination.

The PDP mission to Abeokuta
by Dan Agbese
The visit by PDP leaders led by their new national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, to President Olusegun Obasanjo last week suggests that they wanted him to be part of their party and play a critical role in helping to wake up the party and its leaders to the looming challenges of either returning to power in 2023 or remaining in the Siberia of political irrelevance in the foreseeable future. However, if they went to woo the former president back into their party, they were unfair to him and let the sun set prematurely on Africa's largest political party. The PDP leaders were wrong to try and own Obasanjo, but they should not have asked him to do what will taint him with the dark spots of partisan politics. He has seen it all and done it and must not be dragged back into his former party. His participation in any form in party politics will put unsightly spots on his credentials and prevent him from being the non-partisan guardian of the nation's conscience.

The Untold Story PDP Peace Parley in Ondo
by Gbolagunte Bamigbola
A peace parley was planned for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resolve internal wrangling within the party. However, the meeting ended in a fiasco, with many leaders leaving without achieving their goals. The meeting was attended by leaders from various states, including Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, and Osun states. The meeting was an opportunity for the Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi-led and Senator Alli-Modu Sherif factions to meet formally for the first time in three months. However, the meeting turned out to be a turning point, with members of the party embracing each other and engaging in a shouting match. The accreditation exercise announced by Dr. Eddy Olafeso, the National Vice Chairman of the party in the South West, led to the situation becoming rowdy. Members of the Sheriff's faction were denied accreditation, and they mobilized themselves to a hotel. Despite security personnel manhandling the meeting, a few members managed to enter the main venue, leading to a chaotic situation.

Tinubu’s Ministerial List Has APC Govs’ Blessing – Namadi
by Clement A. Oloyede
The Jigawa State governor, Umar Namadi, has assured that the much-awaited list of ministerial nominees has the blessings of the ruling party’s governors. Daily Trust reports that the delay in the communication of the ministerial list to the National Assembly has given rise to permutations that major stakeholders like the governors and former governors of the ruling party might be going at each other towards asserting their relevance.
But in an interview with Daily Trust in Dutse, Namadi, popularly known as Danmodi, said President Bola Tinubu has been consulting with governors and that when the list is finally released, it would not cause any rancour among the governors.
“The money is meant to be spent for the benefit of the people and there is no reason why you’ll keep the money. Even for the past government, it is not so that the money has been kept but we’ve been prudent. That is why you can see that for the last eight years, on the 25th of every month, Jigawa State will pay a salary and on the 10th of the following month, we pay pension. This process is continuing; we have paid the salary already and you know the FAAC is not out yet but we have paid,†he said.

Oladimeji and the Campaign for Democracy (CD) have urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu's plans to revamp the economy, provide welfare, and guarantee security. Tinubu's pronouncement on the petrol subsidy issue is seen as a cut-throat hike in fuel price. We didn’t kill Abiola, Abdulsalami clarifies
by Saxone Akhaine,
Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has debunked the speculation that the late winner of the 1993 presidential election, Moshood Abiola, died after falling ill in detention. He said he thanked God for the guidance He gave him and overruled those who denied him access to Abiola. During the incarceration of Moshood Abiola, no member of his family saw him, so when he became Head of State, he gave the family a date to come and see him. A day before he died, his family came to Abuja to see him, but the whole family could not see him at the same time, so it was agreed that when this group of his family will see him today, tomorrow the next team will see him. When the American team was meeting Abiola, he fell sick and the security officers called the medical team to attend to him. The medical team plus the American team took him to the medical centre, where he gave up.

We Rejected Panel's Report on Ondo Primary- APC NWC
by Alechenu John
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria is facing a crisis as party leaders continue to give conflicting versions of the controversial Ondo State governorship primary. APC National Vice-Chairman Hilliard Eta criticised Pius Akinyelure's claim that the party's National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, National Secretary Mai Buni', and National Organising Secretary Osita Izunaso were responsible for the "rigging" of the primary election. Eta dismissed Akinyelure's claim as false and an attempt to please an unnamed benefactor. Eta also dismissed the claim that members overwhelmingly voted in favour of the adoption of the appeals committee report. Eta explained that the party's national chairman almost made a procedural error by asking those at the meeting to vote, and that it was agreed that the only report by the Governor Badaru Abubakar-led governorship primary election committee was left for adoption. Eta criticized Akinyelure for starting a fight because his preferred candidate didn't win the election and urged him to go back to Ondo himself with his team and the candidate he prefers.

Why I Fight Buhari- Fayose
by Eya Willy
Thousands of Nigerians protested the freezing of Governor Ayo Fayose's accounts and in solidarity with his government. The governor addressed a select group of journalists after the event, stating that he is a straight-forward person who respects humanity and fear God. He believes that it is a right of everyone in Nigeria to choose their leader based on principles and perceptions. The governor, who is 56 years old, recalls the misrule of 1984-1985, where the military suffered Nigerians and many leaders were clamped in chains using decree 2. The same thing President Buhari did at that time is what he is doing now, with appointments, taking away people's rights, and doing things without recourse for due process. The governor believes that a man that is grown cannot change, as he is born again and cannot change. He believes that President Buhari is living true to type, governing Nigeria today by his appointments, taking away people's rights, and doing things without recourse for due process.

Why PMB Didn't Go To Zamfara By Road - Presidency
by Jonathan Nda-Isaiah
The Presidency has given further clarification on the bad weather which forced the cancellation of the visit to Zamfara State by President Muhammadu Buhari in spite of the planned visit. Presidential Spokesman, Garba Shehu, in a statement sais as briefly explained by the president in a special broadcast to the people of the state, the sudden deterioration of the weather was the "sole and only reason for the cancellation of the visit. He said, "A kilometre of visibility is usually a standard landing minimum requirement but in case of Gusau on the day in question, this minimum requirement of 1,000 meter was down, fluctuating between 300-400 meters. Clearly, this was unsafe in the absence of precise instrument approaches that provide guidance for the pilots. The flights into Gusau were, in view of this, cancalled. The statement on the issue by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attacking the president for not making it to Gusau without this being planned ahead of the journey is shameful and disgraceful for a party that held the presidency of the country in rhe past. What is their own record.

Why They Want to Scuttle My Presidential Ambition- Fayose
by Ogundele Kamarudeen
Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of harassing and intimidating his aides and associates due to the imminent defeat of President Muhammadu Buhari in a free and fair election in 2019. Fayose stated that the truth he told Nigerians during his declaration of interest that Buhari and the APC had nothing good to offer Nigeria had pierced the conscience of APC leaders. However, he remains committed to rescuing the country from maladministration. Fayose described the arrest of two officials by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as the height of impunity, as a competent court of jurisdiction had ordered against such action. He argued that the agency's action showed desperation and political partisanship, and that not obeying court orders is not the hallmark of democracy but a virtue of anti-democratic agents. Fayose stressed that his ambition to contest the presidential election in 2019 is God's project and no human effort can thwart it.

Zamfara: Burying Patriotism in the Courtyard of bitter politics .
by Musa Muhammad
The main cause of the lingering crisis in Zamfara is largely dirty and petty politics by so-called political stalwarts who understand only their selfish interests. This is despite the fact that banditry predates the coming to power of Governor Bello Matawalle, and many of the elders and political bigwigs of the state were caught on record claiming to be looking for lasting solutions. General Gusau is a national figure who should be benefiting from his experience as a decorated military general, but has allowed his military instinct and razor-shap patriotism to be deadened by petty politics of bitterness and deceit. Former governor Attahiru Bafarawa has appointed himself as lords over the travails of the people of Zamfara, yet they have refused to stick with their troubles. They should steer clear of acts that distract Governor Matawalle from rescuing the state from total collapse.
