Senator Akpabio was endorsed for Senate president, while Jubrin Barau was Deputy Senate President. Godswill Akpabio and Tajudeen Abass, anointed candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have emerged as presiding officers of the Senate and House of Representationves, respectively. Akpabio defeated Abdulaziz Yari by 63 to 45 votes, while Abass garnered 352 votes. Yari's nomination was deemed unconstitutional by Tahir Mungono, who ruled him out of order. The Deputy Senate President, David Umahi, nominated Jibrin Barau, who was elected unopposed. Akpabio pledged to uphold the Senate's independence and maintain its independence. He emphasized the importance of the 10th assembly for Nigeria and Nigerians, focusing on key priority areas such as oversight, infrastructure, economy, security, and good working relationships with the Executive. He called for a united Senate and emphasized the need for foreign direct investment, empowerment for persons with disabilities, and improved revenue streams. The senate is committed to addressing Nigeria's challenges and ensuring a strong, united government.

According to the Nigerian Constitution, a National Assembly made up of a Senate and a House of Representatives has the authority to pass laws on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Laws promoting stability, law and order, and effective governance may be passed by the National Assembly. However, lobbying and zoning have had an impact on the present leadership, which is led by Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila. The legislature is expected to endeavour to rein in executive excesses and assure equitable representation because it is modelled after the federal Congress of the United States. With 59 senators and 50 opposition parties, the 9th National Assembly has 66 seats in the Senate and 227 in the House of Representatives. The assembly struggles to establish itself as an independent body, and the ruling party is unable to compel a candidate.

The 10th National Assembly in Nigeria is gradually settling down, but the question of the manner of parliament remains. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas was overwhelmingly voted as the Speaker of the House on June 13, winning 353 votes. Abbas's leadership has created a united, people-friendly, and focused House. The ruling APC's endorsement of Abbas generated furor, but Abbas remains committed to upholding checks and balances. The 10th Assembly will work closely with the Executive and Judiciary to provide good governance and uplift citizens' lives.

Abbas's leadership is based on transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. He owes a debt of gratitude to his colleagues for their massive support during the contest, but his emergence was a product of a unanimous decision by members, and he does not owe anyone in particular but service to humanity and Nigerians.
