The Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday approved two major electrification projects worth N213.7 billion.The projects, according to the government, are meant to improve energy access in universities, teaching hospitals, and rural communities across the country.The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, broke the news while addressing reporters at the State House in Abuja, after the seventh FEC meeting, presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Adelabu said the first project, valued at N145 billion, inclusive of 7.5 per cent VAT, is for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of power systems under the Energizing Education Programme (EEP), implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). It will be funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund and is expected to be delivered within seven to nine months. The approvals granted today demonstrate President Tinubus commitment to transformative investments in power infrastructure that directly impact lives, learning, healthcare, and productivity, Adelabu added.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge will be completed in 20 months and that his administration will continue to promote economic prosperity through sustainable road infrastructure. This includes maintenance of over 832 roads, covering 252km.

Governor Godwin Obaseki's convoy was stranded at the dilapidated RCC junction on the Benin-Sapele-Warri highway, which has become a nightmare for road users. The governor claimed that the conflicting Federal Government's position on federal roads in states made it impossible for his administration to fix dilapidated federal roads across the state. A viral video of the incident was shared, with a background voice urging viewers to share the video to show the payback time for leaders who fail to take necessary action to help the people. Obaseki, who visited the Edo State secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, criticized the state's central location and the confusing federal policy relating to its roads. He criticized the state government for not giving a federal road to any state, and emphasized that Nigerians are all Nigerians and that the Federal Government should treat them as human beings.
