Kwara State government has announced the reversal of the directive reducing workdays from five to three for civil servants. The government on June 5, 2023, through a letter from the state’s Head of Service, Mrs Susan Oluwole, reduced the work days from five to three in the state.  She said the decision was to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal by the federal government on the civil servants in the state. However, in a letter to the heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Mrs Oluwole reversed the decision.

The Federal Government on Monday resumed negotiations with organised labour presented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on measures to take to alleviate the suffering associated with the withdrawal of fuel subsidy by the President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

NLC and TUC a fortnight ago had suspended its planned nationwide indefinite strike action to protest last month’s withdrawal of fuel subsidy.

The meeting was suspended after meeting with representatives of government at the State House, Abuja. 

Speaking to State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Dele Alake, said a steering committee has been set up, alongside technical committees that will help achieve the planned palliatives for Nigerians.

He said: “As we promised the last time we met; when labour called off their planned strike, we held a meeting today. We went through all the demands that labour had tabled, that is government and the labour unions and the last time, they said they were going to go back to their executives and make consultations so that we reconvene today.

while speaking on the subsidy President Tinubu said: we commend the decision of the outgoing administration in phasing out the petrol subsidy regime, which has increasing favoured the rich more than the poor. 

this will direct funds away from arbitrage into meaningful investment in the plant, equipment and jobs that power the real economy. 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended leaders in Nigeria for sustaining democracy pointing out that it was not easy to manage the system condering happenings around the country. The president, who lamented that the level of improvishment in the country was unacceptable, said this yesterday while responding to the governors, under the aegis of the Nigeria governors forum (NGF) chaired the kwara state governor Abdulrazak Abdulrahman expressed their support to him on government decision to remove the fuel subsidy.

The Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has assured that it would protect consumers from exploitative action following plans by oil marketers to begin fuel importation. The NMDPRA Chief Executive, Farouk Ahmed, gave the assurance while briefing journalists shortly after a meeting with oil marketers.

Already, three oil marketers will from July this year start importing petroleum products into the country according to the NMDPRA boss. Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Farouk said the issue of pricing of petrol was discussed with the oil marketers and it was agreed that there will not be capping of prices to allow the forces of demand and supply to determine prices.

He also said during the meeting, the oil marketers agreed to improve their level of collaboration with security agencies to ensure the smooth movement of petroleum products.
