Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has denied any plan to impeach his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu. He emphasized that the move by Shaibu seeking a court order to stop his purported impeachment is preemptive ahead of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor, who has given a broad latitude to his deputy, has been actively engaging with senior actors at the national and state level of the APC, negotiating his way into their party. He is at the verge of finalizing moves to defect to the APC. The governor believes that the court action taken is a shock and disappointment, as it is a preemptive move for Shaibu to conclude his work as deputy governor. He urged the people of Edo North to consolidate and unite their party to build a PDP that will continue to dominate the politics of Edo State and finish well so the people will continue to give them the mandate. The people of Edo North have met several times over a week to discuss the face-off between Governor Obaseki and Shaibu, but they turned down the offer for peace. The governor's decision to take the governor to court is unfortunate, and the people must speak out over the development.
