Nigerian state governors have formed vigilante squads to combat kidnappings and bandits. The squads, consisting of vigilantes, hunters, and neighborhood watch groups, will complement police and other security forces. The abductions have taken scores of Nigerians, with some states in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Lagos, and others under siege. The abductors are demanding a N100m ransom for the release of the nine victims. The governors are deploying trained personnel to enhance public safety and bolster existing security structures. The formations are being created due to the thin deployment of security forces, particularly in rural areas, and the increasing number of attacks by non-state armed groups.

The hoodlums stormed the house, razing his building and properties, causing panic in the community. The attack led to the burning of the house, its properties, and vehicles parked at the compound. The hoodlums, who came in large numbers, destroyed virtually everything in and outside the compound. The police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the arson and said "frantic investigating efforts are on top gear to arrest the arsonists and bring them to justice.

Two teachers, a Vice Principal, and one other staff member were killed and seriously injured at BECO Comprehensive School in Riyom, Plateau State. Herdsmen forced their way into the school premises for cow grazing, but were stopped by security. The teachers approached to plead with the herders to vacate the premises, but the herders brought out guns and shot and killed them. The school principal confirmed the attack, stating that the security men interrogated the herdsmen and that two of the teachers were killed. The school principal lamented the incident, stating that open grazing will continue to terrorize the people of the state and the Middle Belt.

Abuja - ATTORNEY General of the federation ans Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi SAN, yesterday, gave reasons why none of the inmates recently pardoned by President Bola Tinubu have been released from prison custody. He said the office of the Attorney -General of the Federation and Minister of Justice wishes to clarify that no inmates approved fro clemency under the recent exercise of the President's power of prerogativeof mercy has been released from custody. There is no delay in the process, it is simply following the law to the letter to ensure tht onlu those duly qualified benefit from the President's mercy.
