Nigerians are opposing the proposal of immunity for the National Assembly's ruling officers, with former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, stating that there should be no immunity for anyone. He also argued that the National Conference held in 2014 recommended that the Federal Government establish the Office of Public Prosecutor to investigate criminal allegations against the executive, such as governors or presidents. If the agency confirms the charges, the relevant legislature may impeach the president or governor, who can then be arrested and made to answer the crime committed. Falae criticized lawmakers for advocating for immunity for national and state assemblies leaders, arguing that the Constitution should not be amended to take care of transient events but to ensure the long-term stability of the country. Former director of State Security Service, Mike Ejiofor, argued that the proposal is unnecessary and that the face-off between the legislature and the executive is good for Nigeria.
