The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, or NASU, is one of the most powerful and formidable industrial unions in the nation. It has sounded the alarm, claiming that the federal government is plotting to undermine it and other unions in the educational and other allied institutions.
According to NASU, the government's policies are intended to weaken the unions in the industry. These policies include the non-implementation of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), memorandums of understanding (MOUs) and memorandums of agreements (MOAs) freely signed by the government with unions in the industry; the registration of other unions to unionize workers in locations where unions are already organizing the workers there in violation of Section 3(2) of the Trade Unions Act (as amended); and the criminalization of strikes in the industry.
