Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has relieved the Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University, Prof. Bernard Matau, of his position and cancelled staff recruitment for the university in 2022 and early 2023. Mutfwang also sacked one rector and three provosts from other state-owned tertiary institutions. The affected heads include the Rector of the Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, Provost of the College of Health Technology, Pankshin, Zawan, and Provos of the College of Education, Gindiri. The sacked VC is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and was the state Commissioner for Higher Education before being appointed by the previous governor, Simon Lalong. The governor has also approved the dissolution of the Governing Council of the Plateau State University and the removal of heads of tertiary institutions. Applications for an all-inclusive recruitment for all tertiary institutions will be advertised.
