Nigeria's Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has declared that the country's energy transition journey and commitment to clean and renewable energy solutions are on track under President Bola Tinubu's administration. Shettima announced the signing of a joint venture agreement for the Shiroro Generating Company, Nigeria's pioneer 20MW On-grid Solar-Hydro Hybrid project, between the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and North South Power (NSP) Company Ltd. The project is part of a larger 300MW solar programme, co-located within NSP's existing 600 MW Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Plant concession area in Shiroro, Niger State. Shettima praised the NSIA's vision, innovation, and commitment for the project, stating that it will create opportunities for economic growth and technological advancement while addressing the urgent need for clean and accessible energy. He urged stakeholders to collaborate effectively with the project sponsors to ensure timely delivery and operation. The project aligns with Nigeria's priorities of increasing energy output and diversifying into renewable energy, and is expected to attract additional capital and utilise the country's abundant renewable energy resources.
