The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority stated that approximately 15,000 public buses are needed to transport passengers across Lagos, as revealed during a visit by a delegation from the Public Complaints Commission to address commuters' concerns regarding bus availability and long waiting times at transit stations. During the interactive session held at the agency's corporate headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, the transport authority's managing director engaged extensively with the visiting commissioners and directors regarding the systemic challenges facing private franchise operators and public transit logistics. Agency leadership noted that while the current operational fleet stands at just over one thousand vehicles, collaborative initiatives with private investors are already underway to expand capacity and improve service reliability. Also some officials stated that upcoming fleet enhancements, including the anticipated integration of eco-friendly compressed natural gas units and electric vehicles, are scheduled for delivery toward the final quarter of the year to help bridge the massive deficit in public mobility infrastructure and ease congestion for daily commuters across the metropolis
