President Bola Tinubu defended his administration's crucial policies during a media chat, stating that controversial tax reforms are necessary to eliminate colonial tax assumptions and protect vulnerable populations despite regional resistance. He expressed no regret regarding the removal of petrol subsidies, arguing that the bold measure stopped wasteful spending and petroleum smuggling that was mortgaging the nation's future. Addressing economic hardship and inflation, the leader stressed plans to boost local agricultural production and drug manufacturing to drive down costs rather than relying on price controls. Furthermore, he blamed poor crowd management for recent tragic distribution stampedes and defended his administration's anti-corruption efforts, pointing to increased minimum wages, higher state allocations, student loans, and asset recoveries as effective strategies to plug financial loopholes.
