Nigerian Police have confirmed the arrest of two suspected Boko Haram terrorists on a mission to attack former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's residence in Yola, Adamawa State. Jibrilla Mohammed was arrested at the residence and his accomplice, who confessed to being a member of the Boko Haram sect. The terrorists have been working to eliminate Atiku for a long time and may continue until their mission is completed.

Ambassador Mohammed Dauda, former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), has accused his removal from office of being orchestrated by those he refused to release public funds to for personal use. Dauda moved the $44 million to the office of the National Security Adviser for three reasons: to protect Gen Jaafaru, to guard the controversial money, and to create a witness. He was recently re-instated as DG of the agency by the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal. Dauda challenged his removal in court, arguing that the dismissal was wrong and did not follow due process. The Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) ordered Dauda to be reinstated as head of the agency and pay his salaries and entitlements from March 2018 to date. Dauda attributed his sack to lack of godfatherism in government and alleged that the negative press against him was a plot to cover up ineptitude, nepotism, impunity, tyranny, and administrative rascality at the nation's apex Intelligence agency.

Nigeria's President, Bola Tinubu, has pledged to provide the best returns for new investments and create business-friendly incentives for foreign businesses. He made this declaration during the Nigeria-India Presidential Roundtable and Conference in New Delhi, India, on the sidelines of the G-20 Summit. Tinubu commended Indian investors for significant investment pledges amounting to nearly $14 billion, assuring that Nigeria offers the best returns for investment possible. Among the new investments are Indorama Petrochemical Limited, which pledged an $8 billion investment in the expansion of its fertilizer production and petrochemical facility in Eleme, Rivers State. Jindal Steel and Power Limited committed to investing $3 billion in Nigeria, following discussions with President Tinubu. Founding President of SkipperSeil Limited, Jitender Sachdeva, announced plans to invest $1.6 billion in the establishment of 20 100MW power generation plants across Northern Nigeria, amounting to 2,000MW of new power within the next four years. President Tinubu also approved finalization on a $1 billion agreement to bring the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to 40% self-sufficiency in local manufacturing and production of defense equipment in-country by 2027 through a comprehensive new partnership with the Managing Arm of the Military-Industrial Complex of the Indian Government. The nation’s capital, Abuja, is agog as President Bola Tinubu inaugurates the minister-designate who would constitute the Federal Executive Council (FEC) today.  

In a statement by Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, the process was seamless as each of them took less than 10 minutes to conclude the process.

He also said invitation cards for the three guests per minister-designate were successfully handed over to each them for onward delivery to their invited guests.

The Transparency Group in the House of Representatives is investigating allegations that $25,000 was given to members to sign up for a vote of confidence on Speaker Yakubu Dogara. The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs will, tomorrow, meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geof­frey Onyeama, over claims that some states were omitted from the ambassadorial list sent to the chamber for approval by President Mu­hammadu Buhari. Two members of the committee, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Sonni Ogbuoji, who confirmed that the minister would appear before the lawmakers, could not, however, establish whether Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir Lawal, would also be at the meeting. Onyeama and Lawal were also expected to explain to the lawmakers the perceived irregularities in the list of nominees, including the alleged selection of some junior officers in foreign service for ambassadorial appoint­ments instead of their superiors. However, the two public servants did not meet with the committee as scheduled before the National Assembly went on the short recess. Dariye had, while making his submissions, observed that the ambassadorial list was full of omissions and irregularities and should be corrected before the Senate could consider it for approval. The United Nations Childrens'Fund UNICEF has called on governments and  others stakeholders at national and state levels to support breastfeeding mothers in the formal and lnformal sectors exclusively breasted their babies.The call was made by the chief of field office, Dr. Tushar Rane, at a press conference to mark the World Breastsfeeding week 2023. He warned that babies who not breastfed are 14 times more likely to die before they reach their first birthday than babies  who are exclusively breastfed. Rane said there was need for government and other stakeholders to work and promote policies that encourage exclusive breastfeeding .He listed such measures to include paid maternity leave for six months, paternity leave and flexible return -to-work options for parents with new-born babies. He explained that regular lactation breaks during working hours and adequate facilities  that enable mothers to continue exclusive breastfeeding for  six months are also  a sure way of susporting breastfeeding. Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned a meeting held in Owerri, Imo State capital by some elders, who were allegedly staged by their masters in Abuja. The group claims that the elders were blindfolded by saboteurs in Igboland not to speak or take a stand on the release of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and all pro-Biafrans being detained in different prisons and police cells in Nigeria. Turkey is preparing an extradition request for US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, whom Turkey blames for a failed coup. Gulen has said he would obey any extradition ruling from the US but said that President Tayyip Erdogan had staged the putsch. The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) have been criticized for threatening to burn the Biafra flag, which they promised to display on October 1. The group, known as the Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIPOB), denounced IPOB and threatened to burn the flag. The Ahoada police division of the Rivers State police command, on sunday foiled a supremacy battle between Iceland and Greenland cult group in Udebu community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of the State, Sources said that members of the cult groups had mobilised to engage in a supremacy battle in the community at about 5pm when they were intercepted by the policemen, who acted on a tip off. Against the backdrop of the $3 billion emergency loan secured by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) from Afreximbank last week to redeem the tumbling naira and stem volatilities around the foreign exchange market, some economic experts have called for the careful utilisation of  the money so as to create the needed impacts on the economy as envisaged.

President Bola Tinubu has  challenged Nigerians to be prepared to pay more tax as he expressed his administration’s commitment to break the cycle of over-reliance on borrowing for public spending that results in burden of debt servicing. 

Inaugurating the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms (PCFPTR) in Abuja, he charged the committee to improve the country’s revenue profile and business environment.

A key target set by the Federal Government is to achieve an 18 per cent Tax-to-GDP ratio within three years.

The Federal Government on Monday resumed negotiations with organised labour presented by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on measures to take to alleviate the suffering associated with the withdrawal of fuel subsidy by the President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The management of Air Peace has denied claims by the former minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, that two of its Boeing 777 aircraft leased for a monthly fee of $250,000, were parked for several months leading to its incuring over $19 million loss. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited says it would reconcile subsidy deductions with the federation. The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) had in May asked NNPCL to refund over N2.1 trillion to the federation account.

NNPCL made its position known in a tweet on its official Twitter handle yesterday under a post titled ‘Petrol Subsidy Fact Sheet. The Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja has dismissed four petitions against Governor Siminalayi Fubara's election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Fubara the winner of the gubernatorial election, polling 302,614 votes. Four other candidates and their political parties challenged Fubara's victory, seeking nullification. The three-man panel dismissed all four petitions and affirmed Fubara's election. Tonye-Cole of the APC had asked the tribunal to sack Fubara from office, but the tribunal held that nomination of a candidate is an internal affairs of a political party.
