Bakrin: Sugar Sector Reforms to Unlock Quality Jobs for Nigerians as Council Targets 2MMT by 2032

The National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) has emphasized the importance of self-sufficiency in sugar production as a top priority for the country. The council aims to achieve a production capacity of two million metric tonnes of sugar by 2032, with ongoing reforms and operators' expansion strategies expected to create thousands of quality jobs for Nigerians. Sugar operators have agreed to pool resources towards the development of host communities through regulatory interventions, which will further douse current hostilities. The council has identified 14 new greenfield sites with high viability for sugar production, and has engaged operators to ensure community acceptance. The council has also engaged with governors of host states to create a friendly environment for investors.
