Nigeria targets new air deals at global aviation forum

Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, led the country's delegation at the International Civil Aviation Negotiation event (ICAN 2025) in the Dominican Republic. The minister highlighted Nigeria's aim to engage in negotiations beneficial for its aviation sector and to elevate its global influence. The ICAN meeting, occurring from November 10th to 14th, serves as a significant platform for air services negotiations. Nigeria is in a relaunch phase, having recently signed the Cape Town Convention, which facilitated the arrival of the first dry-leased aircraft. Key discussions included enhancing partnerships with South Africa, Scandinavia, Hong Kong, and Tanzania to strengthen bilateral agreements and improve air connectivity. Keyamo reiterated Nigeria's commitment to expanding international aviation partnerships to drive trade and tourism, positioning the nation as a key global player. Prominent figures in the Nigerian delegation included various directors from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority and senior airline executives.
