States Hosting IDPs Eye $12m W’Bank Loan

States hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria may earn up to $12m each from a World Bank–backed programme if they meet strict performance benchmarks on data quality, governance, and integration. The funding is part of a $300m concessional credit approved by the International Development Association for the Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project, signed between the Federal Government and the World Bank. Disbursement is performance-based, with payments released only after independently verified results. Key conditions include comprehensive registration and profiling of IDPs in host communities, detailed vulnerability and intention surveys, and achieving 80 per cent IDP registration coverage across participating states. Additional funding tranches target improved local government asset management and long-term integration of IDPs through access to documentation, land rights, and development programmes. Only states meeting eligibility thresholds and governance requirements can participate. The project underscores the World Bank’s emphasis on accountability, measurable outcomes, and sustainable solutions to internal displacement in Nigeria.
