The Peoples Democratic Party has urged the Muhammadu Buhari administration and the All Progressives Congress to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic institutions to ensure good governance and political stability. Citing the United States presidential election as an example, the Peoples Democratic Party emphasized that strong institutions and adherence to constitutional principles ultimately uphold the will of the people, even against attempts at manipulation. The party criticized the All Progressives Congress for allegedly undermining institutions like the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies during the 2019 elections and called on Nigerians to resist such practices ahead of 2023. It further warned that weakening democratic institutions endangers national unity, security, and progress, and appealed to the government to uphold the independence of the judiciary, legislature, and other key bodies.
