LASG Laments Shortage of Medical Workers The Lagos State Government has expressed concern over the shortage of healthcare workers in the state and has urged newly inducted nurses from the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) to remain and contribute their expertise to the state's healthcare system. Speaking during the induction ceremony of 42 nurses in Ikeja, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, represented by the Permanent Secretary, emphasized that Lagos faces significant healthcare challenges due to its rapidly growing population of over 20 million residents and the inadequate number of medical personnel available to meet their needs. The government appealed to the graduates to consider the investment made in their education and to support efforts aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the state. University authorities also encouraged the inductees to uphold the values of compassion, empathy, professionalism, and ethical conduct that define the nursing profession. They stressed that nurses play a critical role as the backbone of healthcare systems and should serve as advocates for improved healthcare services and positive societal change. The ceremony highlighted the urgent need for skilled healthcare professionals to strengthen healthcare delivery and address workforce shortages in Lagos State.
