Flight Delays, Cancellations Should be Strictly Penalised – FG Panel

The Federal Government, through the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit, has directed the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to revisit draft policies aimed at imposing stricter penalties on airlines for frequent flight delays and cancellations. During a quarterly performance assessment meeting in Abuja, Hadiza Bala-Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, stressed that stronger measures are urgently needed to protect passengers from the inconvenience and financial losses caused by service disruptions. She criticized the ministry's customer service processes, stating that incomplete data hinders proper performance tracking and calling the current target of two hundred and twenty-four days to resolve consumer complaints completely unrealistic compared to international standards. In response, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo praised the review unit's assessment and committed to revising the complaint resolution timelines and enforcing higher operational standards across the national aviation sector.
