Bank Workers Blame CBN as Cash Shortage Worsens The Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance, and Financial Institutions President, Olusoji Oluwole, has blamed the worsening nationwide cash scarcity ahead of the festive season on the Central Bank of Nigeria's failure to meet the cash demands of commercial banks which collectively require at least 20,million Naira daily, with Automated Teller Machines needing about 8 million Naira and counter services requiring 4 million Naira—while retailers illegally profit by selling cash instead of depositing it, prompting calls for security agencies to crack down on unauthorized currency trading and for a greater shift toward a cashless economy, even as the National Coordinator of the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, Emmanuel Onwubiko, criticized the Central Bank of Nigeria and its Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, for mishandling monetary policies that have caused severe hardship for millions, urging President Bola Tinubu to intervene and the National Assembly to summon the Governor for oversight.
