Planning,
Research and Statistics Department is one of the professional department
saddled with the responsibilities of planning and designing strategies for
successful attainment of desired goals and objectives of National Library of
Nigeria. The department comprises of three (3) divisions and seven (7)
sections.
Its CORE functions include:
1. Formulating long-term and
rolling plan for the National Library of Nigeria based on anticipatory national
and global trends in socio-economic and technological development.
2. Collaborate with National
Planning Commission and other public and private organization with respect to
issues on provision of libraries in Nigeria.
3. Conduct and co-ordinate
pertinent research topics of national and professional interest.
4. Providing inquiry services
to researchers and the general public about data and statistics of National
Library resources.
5. Publishing of the National
Library of Nigeria statistics, for planning and policy formulations.
6. Providing viable forum for
publishing and communicating research findings, results and the exchange of
professional ideas.
7. Generating informative
abstracts, indexes and subject bibliographies for publications.
8. Promoting research work in
the field of library and Information science
9. Providing consultancy
services to organisations/institutions.
10.Identifying foundation,
trusts, grants and other funding agencies for National Library of Nigeria
11.Indexing of indigenous
literature e.g journals of library and information science and newspapers.
12.Collection and
organization of rare materials in all formats (print and non-print multimedia,
etc)
13.Preservation and
conservation of archival and museum materials
14.Mounting of exhibition to
showcase and communicate past events and experiences on National values
15.Answering enquires about
statistics relating to library and information centre within the country
