The National Library of Nigeria in collaboration with the Daily Trust Foundation has conducted training for journalists and digital marketers in document digitization. The workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of participants on Document digitization was held at the Daily Trust Foundation Training Hall, Utako Abuja from 26th to 28th November, 2025 with participants drawn from various media houses.The National Library of Nigeria in collaboration with the Daily Trust Foundation has conducted training for journalists and digital marketers in document digitization. Addressing participants at the opening ceremony, the National Librarian/CEO, Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi reiterated the transformative power of technology, stating that "all information curators, providers and all stakeholders especially those in the global south must key into, or they will atrophy". She noted that journalists must reassess their status in order to remain relevant in the era of technological advancement with the incursion of AI, which has changed and continues to change the process of information packaging and access. "Digitization is a fundamental requirement for safeguarding intellectual, cultural and documentary heritage as it reduces physical determination of documents and engender ease of access to accurate, timely and reliable information". It is the starting point for visibility and accessibility, the National Librarian said. She urged participants to embrace the training aimed at building their competence and adding value to the mandate of their various agencies.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Daily Trust Foundation, Malam Bilya Bala stated that "the training was part of the Foundation's Media Enterprise Lab initiative designed to equip participants with emerging skills capable of opening new carrier opportunities". The Chairman emphasized that digitization of documents has become one of the most promising but under-explored fields in Nigeria.
The Director of Virtual Library Services Department - VLSD led the team of resource persons from the National Library among whom are: Ms Glory Okeagu, Mrs Ijeoma Okwudiba, Mr. Iyun Abiodun M. and Mr. Onyekachi Eze-Okata.
